Publishing an ABCtales (a rights question)

I was reading this article about selling first or second use rights for articles published previously in various places using various media: http://www.writing-world.com/rights/erights.shtml

My question is this: Has anybody here published a piece that was originally posted here at ABCtales.com? Or has anybody tried to, but had problems with the publisher when they found out that the piece, or a draft of it, had been online at ABCtales.com prior to its submittal? Or, alternately, has being a part of ABCtales.com actually helped you promote your writing to publishing places in the UK or elsewhere?

It just seems so bogus that some places won't pay you for "first use" rights if you've "electronically published" a piece by posting it somewhere for peer review. I don't know how much of that is paranoia and how much is the way the publishing industry actually works...

Thanks,

Elaine.

Hi Elaine, I honestly have no idea how that would work but if you are concerned it may be a good idea when you post on ABC Tales to change the original title to another name, if you want to have it published. I think this would make it rather impossible for a publishing company to search the web and find your work. I don't know but that is what I would do. CF GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, I've had a number of stories which appeared on abc published. Most people don't care that it has appeared on here, and for those that stipulated that it shouldn't be anywhere else then I've taken it off here. I wouldn't worry too much. Post your stories / poems / articles on here.
