Comment notification

Is there some way of being notified about comments on our own work and also replies to comments we've made on the work of others?

I've recently received a very nice email thanking me for commenting on something, which is great, but it would be better to read it in context with the work in question and my own remarks at the time.

On other writing sites I use members can opt in or out of an automatic notification system. I think if something similar could be introduced here then more people would comment on work and also reply to remarks made.

I rarely go back to check to see if an author has replied to my comments and should imagine most members are the same. This could be one of the reasons few people bother to comment - as my correspondent said, it feels like a black hole on here sometimes.
