New to the site, a quick question if I may.

'm VERY interested in meeting all of you on a creative level and reading your stories. I consider myself lucky to have finally found a sounding board for writers. However, I am concerned about plagiarism. What I mean to say is I'm sure that a lot of you, as I, are looking forward to one day (please oh please oh please) being published if you haven't already. Are submissions to this site somehow safeguarded against someone else stealing them or using them for their own benefit?
I hope this questions doesn't offend anyone, that's not it's purpose. I just want to be sure this site isn't "too good to be true".

Thank you all

and once again, please do not take this question to offense.

Hello. When you post on this site you are making an agreement that the site is allowed to display your work. To end this agreement, you simply remove your work. It's impossible to stop other people pinching your work, but if you post it here it will be date and time stamped. This is good, because you can prove exactly when you placed it in a form where other people can see it. In all instances, your work remains in your possession while it is posted on this site. Hope this helps. Cheers, Mark

Thank you Mark. The time and date stamping makes perfect sense. Of course I didn't expect the online posting brigade to send up warnings whenever someone decides to use someone else's work to their benefit (although that's an idea... hmmm). I was just wondering if there was some small way to protect yourself. On another hand, you may, in a few weeks, be laughing at this post because you realize that nobody would pilfer my writings anyway. In any case, I guess I'm covered. Thank you again Mark. I appreciate the feedback.
"On another hand" - This must be an early entry for The Phrase of the Year 2008 Competition. I promise not to plagiarise your work Heidi, but I am afraid that as a writer of the odd sci fi story I might just have to use this one line.
Kroptkin38 do I detect... sarcasm? If so we may become fast friends. If not, and your serious, then thanks!
It's sad to say in this day and age that we all feel we need to be protected from all walks of life. I say cross the road and dont look. Just make sure it isnt in the rush hour... ... two thirds of all authors arent famous till they are dead. Interesting thought!

Thank you for being kind. Jan

I'm dead but I'm not famous!
