I think I've got my head caught in a sleeve (a work in progress)

This is where I will share the chapters of my first novel as I write it.

Tom Booth was the first of his family to go to university. It was everything he'd ever wanted, or at least that's what he was told. The plan was simple; get to Uni and the rest would fall into place. He'd finally be happy.

Except he wasn't.

This story starts by throwing the reader into the fray of Tom's chaotic mind as he tries to make sense of himself and work out what direction to head in. Just like all of us, he is just trying to work out how to be happy.

Chapter 2, Part I

This is part 1 of the second chapter in Tom Booth's struggle to find happiness through tendencies of hedonism and what is expected of him from society. I had written Tom's second chapter however I think due to a break in writing I had progressed too quickly in what is meant to be a slow progression of his ideas and language. I am now writing a bridging chapter that consists of two parts (should these just be chapters in their own right?) so the jump in progression isn't too jarring and we get a bit more context. PLEASE give me constructive criticism as I haven't been in education for over eight years and really need the help; writing is merely a hobby so I really need your help to get better!

Chapter Three

This is the third chapter in my first person stream of consciousness work in progress focussing on the story of Tom Booth, a young guy who is simply trying to work out how to be happy. This was previously the second chapter however I felt that Tom's language and state progressed too quickly for the story and it needed a bridging chapter. I will be posting the second chapter soon. I have been out of education for a long time now and just write for myself, so if you could please give me some input I would really appreciate it.
