Story and Poem of the Month

Our Story and Poem for the month of March, very kindly chosen by onemorething
The birds are starting to tell us that Spring is here and it’s my pleasure to choose the Picks of the Month for a blustery March. It feels like it hasn’t stopped raining where I am in England for the last few weeks so I’m looking forward to some warmth and brightness. Though reading all the wonderful writing on the site always brings its own light and comfort and ever grateful for this kind and safe corner of the internet.
This site is awash with very talented writers so to choose from writing over the course of a month is no easy task.
But let’s begin with Goatie by celticman – completely absorbing, brilliant and strange – I have devoured each one as they’ve appeared. The first part is here: https://www.abctales.com/story/celticman/goatie
We’ve been lucky enough to have lots of writing from Mark Burrow again this month too – often gritty, but moving and sensitive writing, and I particularly enjoyed the dark tale, 37 Degrees and his flash piece, the ward.
I also very much enjoyed Lou Blodgett’s Forgotten Vegetable.

We also had a couple of great tales from donignacio, my personal favourite being The Return Of Oscaloo. https://www.abctales.com/story/donignacio/return-oscaloo-part-1
And always lovely to see the return of writers who seem to just get better and better. It was good to see more from monodemo this month. https://www.abctales.com/story/monodemo/busy-oven
My story of the month is celticman’s Goatie – it is fantastic and strange as most of my favourite things are. https://www.abctales.com/story/celticman/goatie
For Poem of the Month, I’m just going to come right out and say it – JupiterMoon’s ‘the frog pond at equinox’ is it – a perfect poem, beautiful with exquisite imagery. I loved it.

His poem ‘meltwater’ is a close contender too. https://www.abctales.com/story/jupitermoon/meltwater
I really liked Rhiannon’s A few early wild daffodils in the woods. https://www.abctales.com/story/rhiannonw/few-early-wild-daffodils-woods
Equally, I think Magnolia Fay’s Waiting For Spring captured the feeling of anticipation of a change of season so well. https://www.abctales.com/story/magnolia-fay/waiting-spring
A glimpse of which we were given in marandina’s Spring Skies with its bee-silk daffodils.

What’s great though is that there are plenty of fabulous poems and stories I haven’t mentioned because the site is jam-packed with fantastic writing! I hope April brings us all some sunshine and new growth.
