Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Posted by airyfairy on Fri, 15 Mar 2019 Our Story of the Week is proudwing's mysterious and witty 'The Paperweight'. Works wonderfully as a standalone, but we are promised more, and hopefully soon! https://www.abctales.com/story/proudwing/paperweight-part-1 Poem of the Week is Alfie Shoyger's bonkers and brilliantly funny 'Squirrel Quarrel, North Hackney'. A real treat that brightened up my week: https://www.abctales.com/story/alfie-shoyger/...

POETRY MONTHLY

Many thanks to Alfie Shoyger for March's slightly delayed Poetry Monthly: Rimas Dissolutas. This is a form where, within verses, there are no rhymes at all. However, all subsequent verses rhyme with the first one. Each verse can be as long as you want, and you can have as many verses as you want, so for example it could be ABCD ABCD ABCD etc, or ABCDEF ABCDEF ABCDEF, or whatever. STORY AND POEM OF THE MONTH

Our Story and Poem for the month of February very kindly chosen by Jolono: It never gets any easier. Choosing the winners for February gave me a few headaches, and no it wasn’t the three glasses of Red wine that I had whilst going through all of them! But winners have to be picked and here they are... This month’s winner for SOTM is TFH with La Femme d’argent. https://www.abctales.com/story/tfh/la-femme-dargent A moving tale of a romantic visit...

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Posted by Philip Sidney on Fri, 01 Mar 2019 With a bushel of cherries to choose from this week deciding on the story and poem of the week was quite a task. There were two pieces that reached out to me though - so: story of the week goes to Linda Wigzell's intriguing and compelling piece of life writing: https://www.abctales.com/story/linda-wigzell-cress/family-connections Poem of the week goes to Jane Hyphen's evocative piece: https://www...

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Big congratulations to TFH who gets my vote for Story of the Week with 'La Femme d'argent' and to Ewan for 'A Conversation in Hester Pit. 16 January 1862' which is our Poem of the Week' Do read them both (and don't forget Ewan is still looking for pledges for his second novel here: https://unbound.com/books/no-good-deed/ ) https://www.abctales.com/story/tfh/la-femme-dargent https://www.abctales.com/story/ewan/conversation-hester-pit-16-january-...

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Difficult as ever to choose, but in the end Story of the Week is mikesize1's 'Elephant Nest: Chapter One'. It made me laugh, it made me flinch, it made me wonder what was coming next: https://www.abctales.com/story/mikesize1/elephant-nest-chapter-one Poem of the Week was even harder. Eventually I went for Di_Hard's 'driverless', but with a more than honourable mention for the poem that inspired it, Jane Hyphen's 'Drivers'. Please do read both:...

POETRY MONTHLY

Hi all, hope all's good where you are and big apologies for the lateness of Poetry Monthly this time! January, as usual, brought some great writing. Here are two poems to have another look at: https://www.abctales.com/story/dihard/rv-again https://www.abctales.com/story/rhiannonw/meaningless February's theme is Connect. Do what you will with this, but please think about contributing and posting on Abctales. See you next month, Noo :)

STORY AND POEM OF THE MONTH

For January, very kindly chosen by Fatboy74: I think January is a Marmite month. For many it's the time for a fresh start, new beginnings and a chance to wipe the slate clean. For others, January's one redeeming feature, is that it's not quite as bad as November, which is universally accepted as being the worst month of the year. Whatever your feelings about January, ABCtalers have been prolific and have produced an awful lot of excellent...

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

Posted by Philip Sidney on Fri, 01 Feb 2019 Oh it's been hard to choose! There's so much good writing on the site this week. In the end I've gone with my heart. Story of the week is Jane Hyphen's Brooksy; a low-key piece of heartbreak that echoes with the thrum of those classic chords from Dire Straits. https://www.abctales.com/story/jane-hyphen/brooksy JupiterMoon's, imbolc, is Poem of the week. Jack Frost and the Green Man meet in this quiet...

Story and Poem of the Week and Inspiration Point

As we inch our way out of winter (optimistic I know, but there should always be something to look forward to!), here are this week's wonderful picks: Story of the Week goes to celticman's wonderfully dark and funny 'Skull' and our Poem of the Week is 'Thanks in part to Louis M and William W: another love poem' by Ladle https://www.abctales.com/story/celticman/skull https://www.abctales.com/story/ladle/thanks-part-louis-m-and-william-w-a...
