stop your moaning

The discussion forum has only been up and running for a short time and what is it full of, (cherry picker fixing, how much will I get? disable the ratings). Come on now fellow writers, if any one of us was worth paying, complimenting etc we would not have our stories on ABC tales. Instead we would be earning our bread and butter through publishing our works.

We have an outlet for the public to view our otherwise unread works and what do we do? MOAN MOAN MOAN. I for one don't care whether I get picked for a cherry, or do I dare ask how much will you pay me, I just thrill at seeing my work there and if I get a rating or two in the process, it tickles me pink.

So come on now, stop moaning and start writing and may be we all may be published one day.

Well, I've got some ideas and I want to show them off and I think this might be a good place to do it. I only have one thing up for review - it's a puzzle with a little bit about a writer (as I recall, I haven't looked lately - isn't that awful?) I also have a little project I started - writing my life story and threading in historical events - the research is great fun (I love researching things) and striving to make my self-bio interesting is good writing practice for me. I kind of agree - if anybody was all that accomplished, they likely wouldn't be here. Carly :-)

Aw, cut it out with the sensible stuff! Nothing entertaining ever came out of a colection of people being tairbly naice to each other. :-) I'd also dispute the idea that no-one here's worth being paid for; I think the point is that few of the members have been paid yet.

You miss the point!! I wasn't being "tairbly naice" or even terribly nice I am being terribly sensible. Let's face it if we were all busy writing our next best seller we wouldn't consider looking for any other exterior outlet, as we wouldn't have the time. POINT TAKEN. Also I never said that the material wasn't worth paying for, my point was that finding an avenue for our writing and the publicity that it would generate was generally enough for most amatuer writers, (as in not being paid) sorry but there I go again. I have my own children's stories website and have done for nearly three years all fully illustrated. I have readers from all over the world, but I still jumped at the chance to put my work on ABC tales. Why because exposure is good for any writer. Finally I am not averse to being paid, but hey, an e-mail from a happy reader beats a few pounds anyday. Naive, gullible or just plain grateful, who knows? But that's me. auntie jackie :>)

PS for Genghis, WHERE ARE YOUR WRITINGS?????? No ABC tales!! I would have thought before you can spout about the ins and outs of ABC tales perhaps you should put YOUR money where your MOUTH is so to speak. Sorry if I'm not being "tairbly naice" but how can you moan about payment etc if you have nothing actually on the site?? auntie jackie :>(

What's wrong with professional writers contributing to ABCTales? Speaking for myself, I'm very glad of the chance to be able to post stories and poems under a pseudonym in order to get reactions from a wide range of readers. This is a valuable exercise and I know of no other way I can do this. I've had quite a few surprises too. For instance, stories I thought would be popular being left languishing with only a handful of readers and stories I hadn't really considered as being worth much not only being read by dozens and dozens of people but also being highly rated by them!

Hi Sue, I have never said that it was wrong to contribute to ABC tales as a professional. My point initially was that here was an avenue for writers to post their work with a possibility of a large audience, also as you quite rightly point out the chance to view their preferences. I am still of the opinion that once (the pupil doesn't get a star, or a reward in the form of a hypothetical sweetie from the teacher) the pupil will always "buck up" and start to protest. All I am saying is give the teacher a chance and stop moaning, a bit more hard work and competion is never bad in fact it will often spur many of us back of the class pupils to strive to beat the naturally talented front of the class students. I still stand by first comments, I for one am pleased to have an outlet other than my website for my stories, with the added bonus as you quite rightly say, to view other readers preferences. However, I still feel that to whinge about cherries, ratings and the possibility of monies is beyond my "ken". I am pleased that you are a professional, good luck to you. I am not and because of this I feel in this instance that I have more of a right to view my feelings as an unpaid writer, whose only pleasure is writing with no altruistic motive whatsoever.

Define 'accomplished.' Why wouldn't they be here? ((makes mental note to ask the Apos'trophis't S'ociety whether the apos'tropy comes before or after the full s'top. As'k. Full. S'top. S'ociety. s'ame. ques'tion). Als'o, does the full. s'top. come before or after the bracket? Ask (Bracket )Brigade.))
