blowing andrew's trumpet

it has come to my attention that our very own andrew pack has been shortlisted for the BBC radio 4 dotdotdot competition ...

there were 300 entries from 5 continents and they have shortlisted 11 including mr. pack's story "Avoiding Neville's Bookmarks" ... the final 5 will be published on the website and broadcast ...

so HOORAH for andrew ... well done ... and good luck ...

(look at the site on www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/dotdotdot)

Excellent news! I've only just returned to the surreal world after a week in the wilderness, so knew nothing of the good news until this morning. Fingers crossed for further progress - you richly deserve it.

Never quite sure whether it is etiquette to reply to this type of thread, or whether it makes me look egotistical. But, as a well-mannered fellow, I would like to thank everyone for their very kind words, which are much appreciated. I don't think that without abc I'd have had the confidence to enter competitions at all, so big thanks to the site and all who sail in her. Competitions do seem a good way to boost your confidence, since if you don't get anywhere, it is less personal than a rejection letter - it is just that other entries were better. Once again, thank you to everyone for their encouragement.

Cyber champagne is chilling sweetly. A modest man of wonderfully dry and considerable talent; thank you for bringing us this great piece of news, fishybone. Success should be applauded and shared (I think). Applause.

I have tried to e-mail Andrew but apparently he's on leave until the 17th. Again, well done.

Despite my hatred for that bloody macaw I wish you every success Andrew. One thing about Andrew: he never blows his own trumpet. He lets his work stand by itself even (due to the quirks of stories often appearing on the site at no 40 after being snaffled by the poobumwillything) when the times read is lower than normal. He is a site original with genuine 'times reads' and star ratings. I feel like making a list of all the positives about Andrew, his work and his contribution to the site but it would only embarrass him and, anyway, there isn't enough space. good luck mate.

Congratulations on getting so far Andrew. You kept that a bit quiet, didn't you? Let's hope you go all the way.

Well done Andrew. I have to say that I was going to enter the comp myself but I didn't find out until two days before the closing date. I suspect that I wouldn't have done as well and when I saw your name in the shortlist I felt really pleased for you. Well done again, Antoinette.
