The chicken at the door by Megan
"... his headboard was hairy like a hyena and coarse if you stroked it the wrong way. Sometimes it got a bit unruly and tried to eat him when he wasn't looking..."
A very unusual story which gets steadily more absorbing.
Well worth a look - probably not by the Megan I was expecting :o)

Could not stop reading, Megan! beautifully told! Still wondering about the chicken, came to all kind of conclusions....
I don't think there is much doubt about the chicken, Yutka... except maybe the gender :o)
Great read!
I really enjoyed the descriptive writing: very textural, very vivid! Although I was a little surprised that Stephen wasn't able to hear the goings-on between mum and 'the chicken': what, exactly, were they doing?
Great read.
Thanks for the coments - much appreciated. I have to say - the chicken is definately male.
shit me thats good!
And poignant and funny and utterly absorbing....

Agreed. It's a strangely atmospheric tale, beautifully told, good work.
I've only just figured out why it was a chicken and the gender was so important. I'm even slower than usual at the moment.
I makes me smile to realise that she was being honest - if only to herself. It's obvious now that it could never have been a Magic Hen ;o)
Mykle, Mykle!
You still have to learn a lot!......
Consider me smacked, Yutka.
You're right... I never learn :o(
You've all lost me now!
