Broccoli Reasons by tizzmetizzme

Its the tone of this piece I liked the most. Very well written. I also loved the labels given to various things/people throughout.

And I really liked:

"I would lean on the doorframe of the kitchen as she huffed and tunnelled a hole deep enough in the washing up to make room for the kettle to fill under the tap."

Please, do go into the "dozens upon dozens" of other reasons!

I've just cherried this and came here to flag it up - but found that already done. I like it too - and I don't want it any longer. I think it works so well as a short, precise piece that says far more than its word count. Congratulations!
Thank you. I'm sure most have realised that this name is a pseud (for obvious rather than underhand reasons). Maybe there'll be more, it just plopped out at midnight. Seems the more active the brain, the more active the pen. Thanks.
This is a fantastic piece of prose, the way the objects convey emotions 'Once, at work, I sat in my bosses chair and leaned back, to cooee a colleague. But I didn’t have the weight of success in me, and the chair showed me how confident it was in that.' and 'I am sat opposite, on the (matching oak) Chair of the Wounded. It forces me to sit straight, I lay my hands on his desk, and they automatically fall into appeal.' The pace is measured, and though it is short i think it works well, though i too would like to read the 'baked bean reasons'. Juliet

Very, very good. I liked it as it is too. The last line leaves your mind to wander over the possibilities that baked beans could bring. Jo
"The Chair Of The Chosen" and "The Chair Of The Wounded"!! Brilliant and devastating.
I agree that this is an excellent choice for Story of the Week. Gorgeous descriptions, fantastic and original observations and it hangs with intrigue. It is short but that is a big reason for its effectiveness. This piece is clearly of a professional standard-truly a 'writer's work'. Congratulations !
