Good free webmail other than Hotmail?

I've heard good reports about gmail.com which is Google's service.

I've used yahoo for years and years, and it's always worked fine. Don't you still have to be 'invited' to use gmail?

I use gmail, it's great. It is by invite only, I have a couple left so if anyone wants in, let me know. Just so you know, by some quirk of copywrite law or similar, if you register from within the uk, your address will be [username]@googlemail.com rather than gmail.com Ben

strange - I registered in the uk, and I'm gmail rather than googlemail - maybe its only just come into force, I've had it since shortly after it started a couple of years ago. I have 99 gmail invites (they seem to keep renewing). I dont mind giving some away.

that'd explain it then. Its a good service, and the storage capacity is phenomenal... i think justin said there were some security issues a while back. I guess they solved them, but Ive never had a problem with it.

yahoo and google are miles better than ayone else, yahoo has a particuarly spangly (beta) interface, google has more storage (though yahoo's no slouch there either) and the entire system is -i think a beta, but then virtually everything google does is a beta.. There was some fuss about gmail when it started up because they reserve the right to scan your e-mails for their contextual advertising thing. If you're paranoid about privacy then there are bigger factors to worry about with even having any webmail account.

gmail is very good, it's called googlemail now because of a legal case by gmail, so newer accounts are googlemail
