NaNoWriMo 2

Er... for some reason, I can reply to every thread in this forum apart from the NaNoWriMo one, which is the one I want to reply to. Not to say anything important - just that, like Enzo, I'm putting mine up online (at http://surveillanceangels.blogspot.com/ ) and so I've started this thread to do so, as well as in case anyone else is having the same problem.

have you seen the little thing you can post on your blog to show how many words you have done? ... a friend of mine has one and i like it ... i expect you have but i thought i would just ask ...
Err... I updated the wordcount on the NaNoWriMo site so you can see a graph of my progress. Is that it? ~ I'll Show You Tyrants * Fuselit * The Prowl Log * Woe's Woe
You can get widgets which you can put on your own site, in the signature on discussion boards, etc. Look under fun stuff on the nanowrimo site. I was going to put mine up on abctales like last year until Enzo said he wouldn't do it because it was unfair on the Editors, which gave me a crisis of conscience. I'll find some other home for this year's. --- tried to embed the widget thing here but it doesn't work--- http://www.nanowrimo.org/NanowrimoUtils/NanowrimoGraph/92694.png keep your grubby mits off my website http://www.too-many-monkeys.com

this is my friend's site ... http://damiengwalter.wordpress.com/blog/ you can see the natty widget in the top right ...

Dan, that's not fair--I said subjecting the eds to MY nanoeffort would be unreasonable. Yours and others could be much better. I read through some of your 2005 novel today and thought it was really very good. Jon, I added you to my 'buddies' thing, but you're right, there's no notification, which strikes me as an oversight. I'm interested to try to keep up (as much as possible) with other ABCtalers' efforts. Right, I'm planning on doing 2,500 words tonight. Wish me luck! Enzo.. "Right, I'm planning on doing 2,500 words tonight." Well, I did half that.... Jon, love the tone and pace of yours. Very readable. Nice one. Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
I too was very impressed by the opening of Jack's novel, and would like to point out that I have written more words than Enzo has. keep your grubby mits off my website http://www.too-many-monkeys.com

Yes, you have Dan. It must mean a lot to be ahead of your hero and biggest influence. Genuinely, I'm happy for you and I hope it gives you the confidence to keep writing and bettering yourself. Best wishes, Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
Right. Just for that I'm going to post the whole damn thing on abctales. And if the editors want someone to blame they'll know it was your fault entirely. keep your grubby mits off my website http://www.too-many-monkeys.com

i can't reply to the first thread either... anyway, i'm behind schedule after not writing anythign yesterday - a pub distracted me, it was a pub, with beer in it, and i couldn't leave so i'm to 3500 words, about 3000 behind schedule i will try and avoid pubs
over 8000 now thanks to a productive weekend and a plumber coming around late on monday
*phones plumber* Don't quite get the logic, but it's worth a try. ~ www.fabulousmother.com
i had to wait in for him, so wasn't at work... I'm on schedule at the moment, but thursday, saturday and sunday are looking like no word days, so i'll be playing catch up again
Thanks, Enzo and Dan. Haven't done a very good job updated the site, a) because I'm spending every spare minute on the thing itself with no time left to post it places, and b) because I started writing a bit before the beginning and other bits in the middle and got into a mess. Been playing catchup since Friday when I too felt the call of the pub. It's depressing how long it takes to catch up after missing one day if you aren't belting through it. Gah! I want to be ahead! Enzo's is shaping up really nicely - haven't read anyone else's yet. Beth - aren't you doing this? Did you put it online at all? ~ I'll Show You Tyrants * Fuselit * The Prowl Log * Woe's Woe
a good week so far, i'm slightly ahead of schedule, nearly 15000 words to the good...
'i had to wait in for him, so wasn't at work...' Aaaaah, that explains it. The plumber I called, just sat on my sofa clutching his toolbox. I wondered why he kept refusing to type. ~ www.fabulousmother.com

After a dire day two days ago, yesterday got me right back on track, I managed around 3,000 words so I'm up to 19,135. I've set myself the ambitious target of reaching 25,000 (halfway point) by Sunday evening. It's particularly ambitious as I'm out all day Sunday... Looks like no pub for me tonight! Great to see everyone is still going strong. Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
That's fantastic news Enzo, good on yer and congratulations! I started off really well and on track, but have had about four days where I wrote nothing and am only on about 10,000 words now. Think I've reached the stage where I need to do a little more planning, and then go hardcore next week with a much higher daily target. I'm really glad it's going so well for you, to hear such positive news is encouraging and energizing! Keep it up!
passed 15000, but i was in the pub last night, so only managed about 600 words all day and i'm off out again now, might make 17000 by the end of the night though
I've spent the whole week trying to catch up on last Friday's disaster, and I'm still not there! Am thankfully passed the 15k mark though, with a few hours of the evening to go. Cheers Byrne...I love the fact there's a good number of ABCtalers doing so well. Like JC, I couldn't find you over there either...what's your name? I just noticed in recently added that Brighteyes is doing it, too. Anyone know her username? Tonight's been crap for me so far, only 500 words done. It'll be a late one, I think... Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
Brighteyes' username is pullmyhair. She's struggling a bit at the mo due mostly to being ridiculously ill. She's barely eaten anything in three days. She also lost her favourite part so far, which didn't help :-( ~ I'll Show You Tyrants * Fuselit * The Prowl Log * Woe's Woe

Lost? In the 'file unrecoverable' sense (or similar)? That's a real bastard. And an unfortunate time to be ill too. As if this thing needed to be any harder... Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
Lost in that she can't seem to find the file anywhere, and we've looked in recent documents, on other computers, in temp folders - everywhere we can think it might have ended up. I've found Byrne now. She's just 'Byrne', although when i searched for that earlier, nothing came up. I had to search via region. ~ I'll Show You Tyrants * Fuselit * The Prowl Log * Woe's Woe Just to avoid me (and
progress report, people? i'm nearly at 27000, sadly still behind schedule, the plan is to maybe get to 30,000 today, which will still be behind schedule, the benefit is you're really forced to write, and although you write any old nonsense to appease the wordcount god, some of it turns out pretty good..

I'm on almost 29k. Wednesday I had to go to B/ham overnight with work, so did nothing. Thursday I went to the poetry thing, so did nothing. Yesterday was my birthday, so did nothing. I want to get up to 31k today, and try to build up a bit of a lead against the clock. They say it gets a bit easier at 35k. I hope so. It's hard to get back into after a few days off. Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
I'm floating about the 27k mark, today was a wipeout 'cos I went to the mid month london meet. The only thing that matters is that I beat enzo - which so far I'm failing at miserably.

I wouldn't say 3k is miserably, that can be made up in one or two good days... How was the Mid Month thing? Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
It was kinda ruined by me suffering from agonising back pain that not even guinness could ease. Other than that, good crowd, low wierdo quotient (relatively). Oh, and we got temporary nanowrimo tattoos.

Sounds like it was pretty good. I'll try and make the end one, but if it's the 2nd, which I think it may be, I can't be there - rubbish! Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
i'm through 30k, so almost on schedule i think i'll be up to the end of the month meet up, glad they are not freaks though the freaks go to abc meet ups :-)
Caught back up last night after an unprecedented 3,500 word marathon of an evening. Determined not to slip behind again! Hopefully, if I can do more than the required amount each day this week, I'll land myself on easy street for the final straight. ~ I'll Show You Tyrants * Fuselit * The Prowl Log * Woe's Woe
Suspiciously, around about the time John posted the above, I was being robbed of nearly the same amount of words (attached to a laptop).

What happened?! Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
Burgled. We got of rather lightly considering, personally I lost a laptop, an mp3 player, and my pile of loose change (the thrid item was worth more than the second). Housemate#1 came off slightly worse, housemate#2 lost nothing. The 4,000 words are the only things of mine that can't be replaced.

oh and I've just noticed, about 150 mixed swedish and danish krona, ~20 US dollars, ~50 euros, and no less than 6 bulgarian lev.

Sorry to hear that, Dan.
As a word of advice, if anyone is sort of about to buy contents insurance but has never really gotten round to it yet but will soon and is perhaps hoping that one fo the people they live with will do it first, I recommend yesterday as a good day. s'only money

"As a word of advice, if anyone is sort of about to buy contents insurance but has never really gotten round to it yet but will soon and is perhaps hoping that one fo the people they live with will do it first, I recommend yesterday as a good day." Holy crap - that's me. I also need to register as self-employed and ask NPower why they want us to pay a £500 bill for the last month of electricity, *and* numerous other really important things, but each day I refuse to do them until I've finished my NaNo wordcount for the day, and that usually takes me til midnight. I had fully intended to do this but alas, I have recently been up in Sheffield due to a bereavement and now moving and I lost so much time I had one of those beloved 'f**k it' moments and abandoned the whole idea. Typical me. But I am looking forward to reading all of yours, I've started reading Enzo's and am enjoying! jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Oh, Dan. That sucks. Rotten bastards. If it's any consolation, when we got burgled years ago (we seriously didn't notice at first because our flat normally looked like that) we realised we'd also had about 50 cds nicked. Our insurance company insisted on receipts for the cds before they would pay out! It took months of arguing before they paid anything at all. A few months ago, our present insurance co. paid for sorting out some water damage, but then wrote to say our premium had now gone up by several hundred quid! (I wouldn't *not* have contents insurance in case of fire or summat, but jeees.) ~ www.fabulousmother.com
Policeman: "So they had a good rummage around then?" Me: "No, it normally looks like this" ---- Incidentally, does anyone know, is it our problem to fix the door and replace the lock (they got away with a key) or the landlord's? The landlord is saying it's not his. My novel is now a long way off course and I have friends over at the weekend, I may have to take time off work if I want to make 50K by December.

I think I would be most upset about the missing and non-replaceable words. What a thing to happen. About the key - we had a window broken by some youth (I was volunteering at a youth club, and I think I pissed someone off). The landlords paid out through their house insurance. As the 'repair' you need would come under house rather than contents insurance, I would have thought it was up to the landlord. Have a look in your contract, there should be some small print to back you up. Lisa

I'll check with one of the CAB types tomorrow for you Dan, if you haven't already got an answer. Jude - thanks for taking the time to have a read. It's pretty awful, if you can find one scene in there that's worth anything, you've done well! Without a doubt, the worst I've written, but dare I say the most rewarding writing I've done in a long time. On my blog, it tells me things about how people came to click and read. Here's a copy/paste of one of the stats bits on my blog: Search Engine Terms These are terms people used to find your blog. Today Search Views pushed her legs apart 1 2006-11-20 What I don't understand is that I tried to search on 'pushed her legs apart' and it didn't come up with my blog. And the phrase isn't directly used in the story, although I do have "legs apart". The funny thing is, in my story, that line ISN'T a sexual reference! My blog was disappointing for the person that searched on that in many ways, I imagine. Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/

Dan. According to the award winning information system Advisernet, generally recognised as the best source of up to date legal (etc) information for the advice sector, the answe to your question is: Probably the landlord's. on about 32,000 now, meant to write a lot yesterday but a combination of factors meant I couldn't write a thing leak from our bathroom (not identified and fixed by plumber on previous visit) caused the ceiling of the bathroom below us, to collapse, she's away, so i cleaned up all the plaster 2nd obstacle, a mate asked if he could stay the night, so we got drunk and had kebabs i need a big weekend of writing to catch up, last year i finished with 5 days still left, this year it's going to be very last minute it's like having an important essay due i'm going to start having those essay anxiety dreams again :-(
Dan, Sorry to hear about your break-in. It's really not a nice experience. On the subject of the lock / key thing it's the landlords problem if he or she wants to still have a key to the property, I'd say. It's part of the fabric of the property, and it isn't your fault you got broken in to. He or she really should pay. Cheers, Mark

Yes, I agree. I made a landlord of mine replace a fridge and a washing machine once, so a door shouldn't be much problem. I like the idea of you fixing the door and then not giving a new key to the landlord, though. Just tell him (or her) that it's your house now!
