If you are thinking of going skiing - don't!

For those of you who may be cogitating the annual ski trip I strongly advise you to hold off for the moment.

We went out to Morzine to visit our son this weekend. There is very little snow about, only a few slopes are open - and they have become very crowded ice sheets. At least we had sun and could do a few slippery slopes then stop in the sunshine and eat and drink - but the forecast for the rest of this week is rain up to 2500 metres. That is very bad news. It will destroy any remaining snow (most of which is artificial) and there will not be a decent base for the entire year.

Is this proof of global warming? Possibly - but the same thing happened 18 years ago. If it occurs again next year then there will be real panic!

For the moment the only people who are busy are the medics as they airlift loads of people off the mountain.

If you've booked and can't get your money back then make sure you pack your walking boots!

I don't know Tony, Copper Mountain has about 4 feet of fresh powder. Not sure about Vail, but it's probably pretty good right about now. Visit me http://www.radiodenver.org/

That's because you people won't sign up to Kyoto!
I'll keep that in mind when I load up the SUV to go skiing this weekend. Kyoto...Kyoto...Kyoto... It'll be my new mantra. Visit me http://www.radiodenver.org/

I'm going - but not til April so I'm hoping for some sort of late, serious winter. Though we're going to be on a glacier - Zermatt - so should still be able to get around. I hope!
Going to Zermatt? Take out a seocnd mortgage! It's very beautiful and the skiing is fantastic - but the prices are astronomical!
I know, I know. My mate's parents own a chalet there so we're staying for free. And we're going to restrict our apres-ski to cooking and drinking at home. Apparently we can do plenty of celeb spotting, as well. My mate's brother shared a lift with tiny Tom Cruise. If Katie Holmes is in town I might venture out for one, super expensive cocktail, just to tell she made the wrong decision when she chose Tom over me. Joe
Fear not - a massive dump has hit the Alps and the Dolomites and all is well. I was speaking to my son yesterday and in the 30 minutes we had on the phone another inch of snow fell - now, that's what I call entertainment.
Blimey! 3 minutes is a long phone call between me and my dad.

If I spent three minutes on the phone to my dad he'd call me 'softlad' Daddy, take the banana! Tomorrow it's Sunday! - Faust
