Little Black Dress by Clifford Thurlow
I really didn't get on with the start of this story but once it got its momentum going it turned out to be a cracker. I think the beginning needs considerable tightening but it is still well worth the read:

I agree. It starts off a different story and only really starts when the focus switches to the relationship between Vicky and Fergus.
Really love the 'stamp collection of Victoria Pages', the warm night clawing at her clothes and a thousand other bits, particularly some of the acute descpritions of their relationship.
Maybe think about starting off with the 'fergus is browning cloves of garl;ic' bit and buying the little black drress on impulse later on as soon as she sees it. I don't beleive that Vicky would buy the dress later, especially not for £200, nor that the saleswoman would simply give her the handbag. It doesn't seem consistent with their characters. Also a few of the bits about Fergus are a bit OTT, like him calling to check she's tucked up in bed with a chamomile tea - but other than that I think it's very well written with loads of detail that really brings it to life.
