Next England manager
Now second choice Steve is heading for the exit door, who should be the next England manager?
Jose, El Tel, the spirit of the late Princess of Wales?
Is there anyone out there who's up the job?
up to the job.
There are probably lots of people up to the job, it's just that the position is such a poison chalice that most of them wouldn't go near it with a barge pole. Why would someone like Sam Allardyce (sp?) give up Newcastle to take on the England job? Stuart Pearce might be fool enough to carry the flag I suppose.
There is no suitable English manager around - I think it will be Martin O'Neill myself - the new Villa owner says he would allow him to go and he will be a 'safe pair of hands' (unlike Paul Robinson).
Yes, O'Neill might be good.
He was interviewed last time and one stumbling block was, allegedly, that when asked if he'd be prepared to offer Alan Shearer a coaching role, he suggested that he wouldn't be.
A safe pair of hands is what's needed for England, really. The squad ought to be more or less good enough to get on with it. At least well enough to beat Israel.
McClaren's failure is quite a spectacular achievement. The qualifying group they're in this time is just about the easiest they're ever likely get in the globalised football era.
I think Margaret Thatcher will be the next england manager. Just have got a slight hunch.
