What posters were on your student walls?

This excellent poem by capoeiragram:

got me thinking of my own room in student halls.

I had a poster of Bobby Seale with his black power fist raised and the admonition to 'Seize The Time' underneath it, along with a poster for the Mothers of Invention at the Filmore West, a Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers one with 'dope will get you through times of no money but money will not get you through times of no dope' on it and a Mr. Wonderful (?) strip by Robert Crumb. I wasn't influenced by West coast US culture or anything, was I?

That was 1971 for you.

Tony, That era influenced everyone who passed through it. I had a large poster of Dennis Hopper, flipping the bird while riding a big old Harley Davidson, from the movie "Easy Rider." It stayed with me for many years. The obligatory psychadelic print, in bright day glo colors hung on another wall. The aura of 60's hung heavy in the air, along with more pungent aromas. Various peace symbols and other propaganda were cycled, depending on the topic or cause of the moment. Various renditions of Jimmy Hendrix were pretty popular. Jefferson Airplane, The doors, wow, open up the memory box and drift backwards in time. I would love to write about the fifties someday, but don't yet have enough distance. J.X.M
Bieres de la Meuse I still drink too much
I didn't have any posters. I had stuff out of magazines stapled to a pinboard, it included stuff like: A photo of Kristin Hersh A photo of The Specials A photo of The Clash A photo of Brian Wilson A photo of William S. Burroughs A photo of the Pixies A photo of an elderly woman's torso in black and white that looked like smoke Some photos of photos of suburban houses A photo of Hunter S. Thompson A headline that said 'England is Over'. Hmmmm. Cheers, Mark

A photo Gang of Four as well, now I think about it. And The Velvet Underground. And a big picture of a tranny, too. Cheers, Mark

Oh and postcards of that Klimt painting of Crone, Mother, Maid and of the colourful sketch with of a woman curled up with socks on and red hair, An early Mondrian, before he went abstract; a detail of a silver birch forest with orange leaves on the ground. A Martin Parr photo of a table ready for a birthday party, all covered in cakes with garish neon icing. Cheers, Mark

Lots of flyers for raves, fractals and Salvador Dali's 'Metamorphis de Narcissus'. And I am still very disturbed. jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Morrissey, 10,000 Maniacs and Robert Graves. Oh, and Kerry Mangle from Neighbours. Phwoar!
I had posters on my wall at uni but I can't remember. At 15 - 16 I had Howard Jones and posters for the Level 9 adventure games.

In one flat my walls were completely bare apart from a big poster of 'closer' by Joy Division. Adolescent angst anyone?
I was 35 and long married before I became a student, but when I first met my wife she had a poster on her wall saying "If shit were gold the poor would be born without arseholes." I believe the original came from South America.
It was a huge poster of the 76-77 Leeds United squad. It was a hall of residence at Birmingham University, the side of my single bed ran along the wall and the poster was directly above me. One night I stayed up late reading Rosemary's Baby. When I finished at 3.00am I was terrified, but I had to pad through the long empty corridors to go to the loo. When I got back I turned the light off and tried to get to sleep but it was difficult. Just as I was about to drop off the poster silently detached itself from the wall and gently settled over my face. Scared? I thought I'd never get the sheets clean again.

A Betty Blue and an Albert Einstein.
i was an 80s student , i don't think i could really be arsed with posters, although i did type up a poem by edgar allen poe, "dream within a dream" and put it up, in the hope that ladies would find me sensitive - in the first couple of years it was difficult to get anyone back to my room :-( so they couldn't see how sensitve i was, and what a caring lover i could be
