Well - what do you think? I emailed a number of you before we built the site to see what reaction would be like and most of those I contacted said that they would.

The proof of the pudding of course..

But early reaction to it is very welcome...

Well, I've sent something in... but paid for an ac-tor! None of this method nonsense, mind: I want Irving-esque declamation or my money back! Good luck with this Tony. Ewan
How wonderful - a client!

All the best with it, seems like a really nice idea.
I like the idea, and I might well use it. I'll have to sort out the mic, etc at home first. I think it's on the floor at the moment!
I have bought one - but need to learn how to use it - at the moment I can't even open the tutorial that comes with the software! Ho Hum.
So, who's actually listened to any of the stories on ABCtales Radio and what do you think of them - in quality, in terms of download speed etc?

Hi Tony - I have heard a few now. To my ear the sound quality is great. I have been fortunate enough to have you read one of my stories in the past Tony, and although I know you're a pro, but it's worth commenting again that you do a great job of the ones you read. I listened to the stories streaming and had no problems at all, they started instantly and played faultlessly. I would personally prefer not to have the music in the background, but I'm sure it's there because the majority opinion is in favour and it's not a big deal either way. The only problem for me is the cost. As I understand it, it's £20 for ABCtales Radio host the file, with £10 per year to be paid evermore. This may disincline some people (like me!) to put multiple stories up. And you'd have to be pretty flush to want a couple of the longer actor-read stories up, at £100-odd up front and £50 per year thereafter! But that's beside the point, I'm no businessman and I don't know what people will pay for what. What I do know is that this seems like a cool service and I look forward to seeing it develop. I hope it's a huge success! (PS perhaps it would be nice to put a link over there directly to these forums?)
The music behind was put on when they were recorded some years ago - I don't like it and wouldn't put it on now! The pricing is as low as we can go - and we did 'test the market' to a certain extent by writing to a number of ABCtalers to see what they thought of it and the vast majority found it acceptable. Actors need to be paid - and so do we (!) - so I do hope that people will take up this opportunity.
I will listen to some later, seems a bit rude to listen to them at work like :-)
I've listened to a few ,and the sound quality and readings were spot on. I admire people who can read their own work and others, seamlessly and effortlessly, it was good hear voices of some of the sites regs. Am i right if you record your own story or poems , then submit them in mp3 format , you pay 20 and 10 quid respectively for each sub? Good stuff , hope the idea kicks off.
You pay 20 quid for the first year for each piece - and then 10 quid a year to keep them up there. It seems reasonable to me!
Just listened to Tony read Another Wednesday by Mary Moses. I liked it! I was surprised that Tony’s voice was not what I'd expected... from his photos, but then I‘d forgotten he used to be on the radio. I’m impressed. Couldn’t say so though as ABC membership, ironically... doesn’t seem to be one of the ID options.
i listened to Cat Antics. ever so slightly alarmed by the 'You're listening to Abctales' intro. enjoyed the extract. actually found the background music quite soothing, and Tony's reading very clear and agreeable.

And there's a new story up today from Felicity Shakespeare - give it a listen.
i just listened to Parallel Heaven which was great. when i was in Rome i picked up a tape of Lord Byron's prose and verse read by someone who sounds just like Peter Vollebregt. right now i just want to run home and check the tape to see if it's the same guy. man i love that tape.

It is a wonderful piece by Ewan and I think it's well done by Mr. Vollebregt - we have some very good readers waiting in the wings so do give it a whirl!
