United Press (Poetry Anthology)
Has anybody dealt with United Press? About a month ago I entered three poems for a competition that United Press was running. The top prize was £1000 and I did not win but apparently I made the shortlist. You know, perhaps I did, I shouldn't be cynical. I had a nice two page letter with a proof copy of one of the three poems requesting my permission to publish my poem in an anthology entitled 'Striving To Say.
I wouldn't receive royalties but I am permitted to get 25% discount or my money back from purchasing the book. There was also a yellow questionairre to be filled in which would be the basis of a written profile at the cost of £14.99 or I could write one myself for £9.99.
The deadline for my sending the "yes-it's-okay-to-publish" signature etc is 20th July. I am inclined just to send that and nothing else as I'm not here to sell myself and I have a copy of the poem anyway, why do I need to see it in a book? Being a bit skint is also a deciding factor here.
I've also had a look at the http://unitedpress.co.uk/ and frustratingly I can't find any section that says "Books For Sale". I would like to see somewhere that has a book available. Even just a picture would be nice.
You know what, I'll send everything except money and if they really want to publish my poem they have my permission. Not my cash.
