Make it Personal

I’ve got a new, never-been-done-before, twist that will have readers on the edge of their seats. This will work for a TV drama as well, so keep it under wraps okay.

You need to have a tired, alcoholic cop who is jaded by decades on the job, whose alcoholism has ruined his marriage, and who seems indifferent as to whether he lives or dies. You can then bring the story to life by getting him involved because “This time it’s personal.”

I know. I know. Pure writing genius.

Maybe have him befriend a prostitute with a heart of gold, stirring something deep inside of him, offering your readers a brief glimpse of his flickering humanity. But then ….. the villains kill her, and “This time it’s personal.”

Are you with me? Genius, yeah?

I tell you what else has never been done before; You could also add a love interest, a young attractive partner he’s saddled with, and even though they get off to a bad start there’s a definite attraction. Is that a winner of a plot or what?

And to save time, you could hire a ghost-writer in India to do the job for you. You won’t even have to write it!

Do you know Karl some of the most outlandish and ridiculous plot lines are often the most successful. How will it end though - in tears I bet?

Thanks Karl, I'm writing furiously now. No, not the story to a person in India who will do it for me in between making nuisance calls from a call centre. Thanks, Moya

YOu're not Karl Wiggins, you're ITV drama.

Where's that wink thing you get on Facebook?
