My turn to brag :-)
Well chuffed. I got a letter from Company Magazine today saying I'm a runner up in their Young Writer of the Year competition with my story 'What You Said'
You can read it at
http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewStory.cgi?s=11294
Now very nervous cos it's the first time I've let you lot read my creative writing!
Cheers
Em
Hi Emily
I didn't think you wrote fiction. Have you been doing it long?
What You Said is a SERiously clever, funny story. Congratulations!
I remember seeing that comp in Company. Do you win something good?
Sarah :-)
Well done, our Em!
Off to read it now...
Er...hallo Sarah.
Great twist Em...
I taught her personally. She can shimmy wif the best, too!
Awww - thanks. Really glad you like it - I realise how brave you all are subjecting your work to criticism on the site cos it is nerve-wracking! (Although I do have another username and have been putting work up from the beginning of ABCtales - just kept it secret - including from the other eds - so that people wouldn't cry 'foul cherry'. And no, I've never cherried my own work.)
Sarahjane, I've been writing short stories and poetry since I was about four (my god was the stuff I did in my teens embarrassing!) so I've been writing for a while. Did a creative writing course as part of my degree which was really handy.
Re: prize, I won a year's subscription to Company and a year's supply of Pan Macmillan paperbacks so quite a nice prize. Wanna know who won though!
Cheers
Emily
congrats em!
That was a really good story.. liked that one a lot...
I wasn't expecting that twist at the end... good one.
Congratulaiton and celebrations. Well done Miss Emily.
I liked the story a lot.
Pat yourself on the back. Only if you can reach, that is.
are you implying that emily is of ample proportions spag person?
Just read What You Said.
Nice one.
First thing to come to mind was "The Magic Christian" by Terry Southern, who also wrote "Candy" and the screenplay for Dr Strangelove.
If you haven't read "The Magic Christian" give it a try. It's a very short novel, and though a bit dated, the concept is very clever.
Of course not. I would not be so crude. But if you want to divulge that is fine with me.
Emily
Congrats. I have not read it yet. I am going to buy this LADIES magazine tomorrow.

It's not in this months Ralph so I'll save you the embarrassment (although I *am* in this months 'B' magazine for an entirely different reason....)
Will let you know when it comes out though...
Well done young Emily! We overpublished writers should see more of each other. May I suggest that your older self pops into the Snug at Old ABC Tales in the near future? Please wear fluffy slippers. Blue rinse optional. No pressure....
