Writing a humourous story

Can someone please give me some ideas on writing a humourous story? I have read wonderful stories which keep you chuckling till the end. But when I actually wanted to experiment on one, I didn't have a clue as to how to go about it. Besides there's this contest that I'm planning to enter which demands a well-written humourous story. Can somebody help me?

Uh... Well Fahima... I dunno... Humour is difficult sometimes. I find that some people are just naturally witty and humerous. You can use lots weapons in the humour war and it just depends on what you think is funny. Personnally someone like Douglas Adams, or Kurt Vonnaget always made me laugh hard, but also made me think. I guess that's what leaves a lasting impression. Thoughtful humour.
