Russell Brand - Like Him Or Loathe Him?

Does anyone like the comedian Russell Brand?

I think that some celebrities/comedians are a bit like Jar-Jar Binks in Star Wars. They're so over the top that they just become irritating.

Jim Carrey is another example. Capable of being hilarious and a good actor but just too self indulgent.

Also, if you do like Russel Brand or Jim Carrey, are there any actors who really irritate you?

Loathe.

Actually, I'd like to change my comment to doubleplusungood. It's a while since I've heard any good old Newspeak.

I fear that Russell, true to himself when he was drunk from the cup of life and bound to crash and burn at 27 might now die of boredom. Funny in a Kenneth Williams sort of way - a dream interviewee but stretched when presented with his own show or book, he is now worshipped by the Hollywood Grimalati. Greater than the sum of his own oft seen parts and doomed I fear for a film career more like Henry Winkler than Henry Fonda. Back in 10 years with his leg between his tails, drugged and drunk and on Eastenders - I so hope not.

Love, loathe or marry? None of the above. It was all a ghastly mistake and I've taken out a super injunction to prevent him talking about it. Yes, he was Bertrand Russell's illegitimate brainchild. I am not willing to divulge anything more without payment and/or ice cream.
I don't loathe or love, I like his acting. He's hilarious, and the reason why I like him as an actor and a person is because he's married to Katy Perry, who, FYI, is my favorite singer. Savannah

lavadis, personally I wouldn't compare him at all to Kenneth Williams. Kenneth Williams belongs to an age when actors/performers were men and women with maturity, not to mention style and charisma/presence. Today, because we worship youth rather than maturity and experience (probably because of people like James Dean who, himself, had more maturity and talent than the current crop of hollywood actors) we idolize 'boys' who, no matter how intelligent they are, still come across as being childish. Just look at the actors and actresses of yesterday; most of them, strong "Father" or "Mother" figures with authority. Most embaressing of all is that people like Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves have gotten old and now just look like aging slacker teenagers, not men. Kenneth Williams belongs to the age when Frank Sinatra was king and people expected performers to exude experience. Russell Brand belongs to the age of 'Big Brother' and 'X factor' when anyone can be a celebrity. Even David Cameron looks like a boy compared to politicians of times gone by. I love Kenneth Williams and Hancock and all that generation of comedians but, while they were often silly and camp they still seemed like grown ups. JoHn
An overrated hybrid , from an act of sexual union between Frankie Howard, Kenneth Williams , Jerry Saddowitz and Larry Grayson. Rather like Nigel Kennedy the violinist, he puts on a ridiculous mockney accent to try and give himself street cred. Behind the puerile ghastley humour and dubious life story, there is an articulate man lurking, which you see surface briefly when he does serious documentaries. But his infatuation in sharing tales about his festering bellend with his audiences, leave me sighing in exasperation at what people perceive as funny nowadays.
