geoff tims new book deca

I found a poet that I knew nothing about through a international poetry competition that I entered. The judge was Geoff Tims and as I always do with competitions i decided to do some research on the judge as i feel you have a better chance of winning if you know something about what the judge would be looking for. I found his site www.geofftims.co.uk and i was amazed what i had found. This best kept secret has been on loads of radio stations and has had lots of articles written about him. I read some of the examples of his work on his site and found it to be very raw and powerful. His writing made myself ask many questions, like why on earth havent i heard of him before. I quickly bought his book over the net and read it with amazement. His work in his book was a lot more powerful than the ones on his site. I sent the author an email not expecting to hear of him as i have written to lots of authors and never received a reply but this time i got a nice letter back. I wrote to him again to ask where he would be performing this year and the next time he would be on radio, i even had the cheek to send him some of my work. I got a reply back telling me when he was on radio and i tuned in and he blew me away with a poem called the first time. The reply i got about my work was very honest and i have worked hard on my work with all the great help that i recieved off the author. It just shows that there are authors out there who will talk to you and give you that encouragement that you need.
