Old People In Prison

So Sylvia Hardy (148), has been sent to prison for not paying her council tax. I'm worried for her. Before she was sentenced she said "The hardest thing for me in prison will be the food. I have a number of food allergies, so I will not be eating much for a week."

She's not wrong. I had to beg for gluten free toast when I was inside. Made the eighties in F wing a real challenge for me

Oh it's the paint they use in there now. Those colours play havoc with my aura. I told them, but they did nothing, wouldn't even allow me a pastel wall hanging. It ruined the whole thing for me.
>>> ...sentenced to a week at Butlin's Now there's a punishment for you!

well, that depends on which Butlins. Bognor is only a Cat C gaff, but Skegness, well if they send her there, I fear for her, I really do. (My nan did 3 weeks in Skeg, in the fifties. She never really recovered.)
Those Redcoats were bastards back in the 50s. I've seen the documentary.
Brighton... give my condolences to your nan. Actually, you know what? I have to confess I've never actually been to Butlins nor any of these British holiday camps you speak of. I was only offering my comment thereupon for comedic effect. I therefore apologise unreservedly to any whatever-coats out there who may take offence at my presumption. Yours humbly and shamefacedly, "P"

Well I've never done time in Butlins, but my husband has. Got two weeks in 1972 for cheeking his mum. Still has flashbacks to enforced attendances of knobbly knee competitions. Sometimes he wakes up screaming, 'There's a baby crying in chalet four! Baby crying in chalet four.' It's hard to watch.
I have had experience of chalets though.

I think, to be fair, she should be made to pay the outstanding tax. At a rate of 10p a week, and the chief executive of the council should have to come round in person each week to collect it and write it all down in a little notebook. Better still, that old person Margaret Thatcher should be put in prison and have to pay EVERYBODY's council tax.
Call me a cynic if ya like, but I find there is something rather sinister about a woman getting a week for non-payment when a couple of weeks ago a man got 4 weeks for the same offence. The magistrates obviously felt they HAD to lock her up but didn't want to run the risk of a national outcry by over-doing it, whereas NO ONE gives a shit about a guy, especially as he was a retired priest. Most people would have given him 25yrs just for being a priest. On a more serious note, how can it be right that the council demands an increase in excess of the percentage increase in pensions? At that rate old people will end up starving to death. Hold on, isn't that what the government want? And another thing, if you think things have been bad under Tony Blair, just wait until greasy Gordon gets in the driving seat! 148, Tim. Methinks you exaggerate!

So, Sylvia Hardy(97), has been released from prison after two days, as someone paid her council tax bill. I've heard the screws had a whip round to pay it, sick of trying to source wheat free tagliatelle. (And apparently she's got the ump that someone paid it and she's been released. Presumably cos she won't be on the telly anymore)
