Hiya Peeps!
You're probably wondering why I've asked you all here this evening...
Just to say hello, I've been away from the site a while but now I'm back. Looks very spiffy and new. How is everyone?

Still loving 'Advance'.

Hi Tim, How's tricks? How's it going with agent etc? New site is nice, isn't it?
Welcome back - good to have you along!
I think the new site's fantastic. I realise it's traditional to grouse vociferously at any attempts by abc to modernise or improve facilities for its members, but I'm going to break with convention and simply say thank you, and very well done.
Drew - things are going okay, thanks. Bit of a mixed bag really. The agent has asked me to make more rewrites and - annoyingly - I see her criticism is actually spot on and very useful. So that is proving tough. Slightly afraid I'm not up to the challenge. I'm writing freelance for a few magazines, reviewing DVDs and travelling to Dam in October for the launch of the Xbox 360. Just broke up with the missus and had to return home - not great fun, but on the other hand it gives me time to get all this novel business sorted. Feeling pretty optimistic, overall.
How does one find one? How do you find an agent that deals with off the wall comedy?
I'd get a copy of The Writer's Handbook 2006, Styx. Then bosh off your first three chapters to all and sundry. If it's brilliant, it'll find a home no worries.
The Writers Handbook is a listings book. What is there to dislike? Ignore the articles by all means: the book does nothing more scary than list the addresses of people/magazines/contacts in the industry.
It cannot be a "bad" book; it just collates a lot of information that it would otherwise take ages to find.
Like Timbo says, if the writing is good, you can get an agent. Getting a decent publishing deal may not be so easy...
Joe
Yeah. I'm gonna get me that book just as soon as I have anything worth sending to anyone.
