I'm a winner (again)
I mentioned this in another thread but anyway.
Ahem....
I am one of ten winners in the Middlesex University Short Story Prize. The final three placings are to be announced at an event on December 13th with £1000 going to the top story. And then all will appear in a book published by MU Press.
Best thing tho' was that Ali Smith was one of the judges so I've been glowing a bit since I found out thinking that someone I admire so much should like one of my stories. (And it was on here first.)
And I wonder if she will be at the event?
Of course you are a winner - your writing is brill, original and wonderful.
Congratulations.
If you do meet Ali Smith tell her she's brill, and that I thought Hotel World was amazing. Anyone who can write about a wrist watch in a way that is sexually alluring must have talent...
fantastic news drew ... you really are super fab ...
Brilliant, Drew; you keep at it, and you get the rewards. I think a competition that guarantees the top few publication is much better than one that picks a couple and forgets about the rest.
I'm not surprised Ali Smith likes your stuff; she wrote the introduction to that Frances Gapper book you recommended to me, and even though I think you're a better writer than Gapper, you have similarities to her.
I'm really pleased for you, mate.
Hey, a lot of my favourite people all in one thread. Thanks guys.
d bes, I haven't heard from you in ages. What you been up to?
Ferg, I haven't got the details - but if you're in or around London on the 13th then come with me. I guess I can take guests and I don't fancy going on my own so much. As long as you can drink lots of red wine, and cause a scene???
drinking lots of red wine and causing a scene is one of my many specialities Drew - so I'd love to.
Yeah! Well, when I've got the details I'll mail you.
I said well done on another thread too. But I'll say it again - well done!
This is great news. Which story won?
Joe
The story is 'Reyka'.
It's one of The Penguin Variations. It'll be the 4th one to get published and the other 4 have appeared online on different websites.
