Rorschach's Mask

I wonder if you could help me?

My name is Shelly Hobson and I've contributed on here for a couple of years. I'm 32 and 12 years ago I was diagnosed with severe Bipolar Disorder. At the time, I was studying Law at the University of Cambridge.I was hospitalised but managed to complete my degree. Over the years, my illness has become progressively worse and is now debilitating. I decided I could never hack it as a lawyer and devoted my professional career to helping young people from non-traditional backgrounds achieve their true potential.

Bipolar disorder is a soul-destroying illness and some days I feel very close to giving up. To survive, I write poetry and prose. I have had a few of my individual poems published and won a few writing competitions.

The act of writing is cathartic. Sufferers of mental illness often feel like second class citizens and we sometimes suffer as much from prejudice as we do from our diagnoses. Sharing emotions, experiences, hopes and dreams and promoting awareness and talent is something I desperately want to do.

I would like to publish a book of poems, prose and art-work based around individual experiences of mental illness. Working with leading mental health charities, I would like to invite sufferers to contribute their work for inclusion. I want to ensure voices are heard, stories inspire and talent is recognised.

I want to make a difference - but I can't do it on my own. To this end I've set up a page on Indiegogo to try and raise funds to do - could you please help me spread the word?
