I notice that quite a lot of people on here write new amazing stories and poems regularly. Not me. I have been trying to write a children's novel for some years now. It is true what they say...you think you have finished your novel...now the hard work begins!

Would any of you be kind enough to give me some constructive criticism to help me achieve my dream of actually being happy enough with it to consider it 'finished'?

Many thanks,

Rachel

I note also Rachel that you don't critique other writers and all of your posts are demands to assess your work. Maybe that's why there has been a limited response to your offer.

Sorry if it comes across as 'demands'! I joined this site to help improve my writing with the help of other experienced writers - perhaps I have misunderstood the nature of the site.  You are right in saying that I don't critique other writers, but that is because I personally don't yet feel qualified to do so.

Thank you for your comment.

Rachel please look at this link (and all the other comments in the thread) think carefully about how it might relate to your comment ^

the thing that jumps out at me is most folk don't feel able to offer a critique of their own work, never mind someone elses. And if they do it's more an ego thing, which isn't any use. The opportunity cost of spending time on your work is spending less time on their own work. In saying that reading is pleasure and entertainment combined. I've read probably about 90% of your work. I'm not sure I could offer any added value.

Thank you so much for your comments and for reading my work. I have enjoyed your witty comments. In my case, it is not an ego thing. I genuinely want to improve my writing to get it to as good a standard as I am capable of. I am new to writing and keen to learn from those with more experience. I completely understand why people don't leave critiques, but was hoping that someone on here would have the experience and insights to help.

Many thanks.

All the best,

Rachel

we're all struggling writers Rachel. I wish you well and maybe somebody will pick up the baton. Children's fiction is a specialized field, which makes it more difficult. But from what I've seen you're good to go. Publish and be damned (or something less cliched).

Much appreciated.
