Possible Brighton meetup?

Okay, this idea might go down like the proverbial lead balloon, but are there enough interested people in the Brighton area to make an (unofficial) evening meeting worthwhile? Booze and chat, nothing too heavy.
Few made it to Jake's London meet recently, which was a pity - it's always good to put faces to names and share a pint or two. Brighton's public transport links are excellent - vital for getting home safely! If anyone's interested, how about an evening meetup in, say, a couple of weeks' time?
My first choice of venue would be the "Evening Star", but maybe that's a bit cramped if more than two turn up - the new Wetherspoon's is only a five minute stroll from the station, so that might be preferable. Any takers?

Having just got back from an ace week in Brighton, I'd be well up for coming. Cheers Em

As I live just round the corner from the Evening Star and love it to death - it's the best real ale pub for miles around - I would most certainly be up for it. Just suggest a date, Roy, and I'll be there. Preferably not a Tuesday though! There are a fair few registered users in the Brighton area so we might get a decent response. I will certainly try. Brighton is a wonderful place, full of great shops, good music venues and lots of interesting places to eat. It's just like London but with sea and wonderfully bracing air. Good idea, Roy!

Great - some interest! I'd thought of just an evening meet - I'd suggest, say, Wednesday 22nd at eight. If people are coming some distance, however, would a Saturday afternoon be better so that everyone could enjoy a day by the sea? I'm up for either. And, as Tony's as keen on the "Evening Star" as I am, let's make it there. It's only a minute - literally - from the station: cross the road outside, but don't go off down Queen's Road. Bear right for twenty yards, facing the "Railway Bell", then turn left down Surrey St. It's a hundred yards down on the left. I'm looking forward to this. Roy.

Okay, then.. Saturday, August 19th., if that suits everyone better? What time? I'd prefer the evening personally, but I suppose that won't suit everyone else if they're coming down for the day. Any suggestions? PS - Parking in Brighton is diabolical!

This is very spooky. Many months ago I won a prize for a letter I wrote in a magazine. It was a weekend away anywhere in England. I chose Sussex and the weekend was August 18-19. (Cue Twilight Zone music). I just thought there was an amazing circularity to the fact that my writing leads back to another writing-connected event.... (ah, will someone shut that woman up...ah go on).

Just checking my diary with the powers that be at home. I'll let you know if I can make the 18th then! Pip pip, Tony

Okay! Saturday the 18th., not 19th. Thank you, Tony. If only my ruddy Larsen calendar wasn't so funny, I'd be able to read the dates straight. Possibly..

Sorry - I no can do the 18th - already committed to an old mate's 60th birthday party that night in London. Do go ahead without me or fix another day. Pip pip, Tony

Dear Roy, it was good to see you again last night and apologies that I couldn't stay long - family commitments, I'm afraid - and a good thing I was home too as my son got knocked off his bike my a car! He's OK but he's going to have a wonderfully cut up face for his 21st birhtday! Ho Hum. I hope some others turned up or that the music (and the beer) at the Evening Star kept you suitably entertained. Cheers, Tony

Well, this seems to have fizzled out in true "thread" style. As I've not heard anything from IFB, I assume that this coming Saturday is a no-no? And, as Tony can't make it either, there seems little point in going over. I know there are plenty of ABC members out there in the Brighton area - maybe everyone wishes to remain anonymous? Fair enough. Anyway, I'll be supping in the "Evening Star" from eight next Wednesday, waving my ABCtales mag pathetically. If no-one else shows, I'll at least have had a few good beers. see you - or maybe not! Roy

Er.. might be a cracking wheeze to put stuff like that in, right? I meant next Wednesday, as in from now - the 22nd. Silly me. Bet nobody turned up, anyway!

Sorry, IFB - but I had no advance warning. (Your last word was back on the 7th, and in the absence of any fresh information I assumed you wouldn't come down on spec.) Sorry again if you did, but I put the info on the thread on the 14th and got no response. Tony couldn't make it, so I reckoned that I'd be standing around talking to myself! If anyone's been inconvenienced, I apologise. Maybe it was a bit ambitious trying to juggle everyone's requirements. Roy.
