Evie's Poems
When eight-year-old Evie Clarke was diagnosed with terminal cancer she decided to write poetry to cheer up her family and friends. Her parents promised to publish her poems in a short book but, tragically, Evie died before she could see it.
Her parents, however, have still kept their promise and the book has now sold 1000 copies, with all the money raised going to Sheffield Children's Hospital, who cared for her.
Here's a poem entitles Mighty Meat:
Lamb chops, chicken legs
Beef and kidney pie,
I like to eat a lot of meat
It makes me wonder why.
It may be because of my medicine
It may be because of my drugs
I like getting all my kisses
I like getting all my hugs.
At present the book is only on sale in Evie's home town of Matlock, Derbyshire, and at the hospital. But the family is arranging another print run and hopes to find a publisher.
