Frankfurt Book Fair
Excellent article about the Frankfurt Book Fair -

My agent is there.
That's a brilliant article and says so much about the state of the Publishing trade at the moment.
They know that online is the way to go but don't have a clue how to use it. They just haven't thought it through at all. The time to create that 'literary hub' is now and that's what we are attempting to do with ABC and Booktribes. What we need now is the backing - and that's, hopefully, on its way.
John Sutherland on Start the Week was saying the same thing. He's written a book about bestsellers. Andrew Marr commented that when you look back on the book charts the books that sell the most are not the most memorable. Sutherland said that the internet was where it was going but no one was quite sure yet how to do it. He mentioned a writer who had sold 40 million through internet sales but was largely unknown in bookshops.
Re the article though I would advise anyone not to give up hope. My first book was picked up from the slush pile and the next one sold through an agent. I didn't have any contacts to get an agent but it was just luck that I saw her name on a contact list and emailed her.
