Bridget Jones
i just finished the second Bridget Jones diary.. after having read the first one 3 times! and i think that as a sequel.. it's just as good as the first one..
anyone read both of them? what do you guys think?
Read the first. Enjoyed it but was boweled over. Read bits of the second while working on the counter for Barnet libaries. It was more interesting than doing the job I was being paid to do.
I think Fielding's a very good humourous writer but I reckon Bridget's more a girl thing though.
I enjoyed them both. Don't think I'd want to re-read them though, but then I hardly ever read anything twice.
neither do i gail.. but they were just so funny.. everytime i was laughing out loud like an idiot by myself in my room!
the film wasnt too good tho..except for colin firth of course :)
I remember reading them when they were a column in the paper (Independant? Guardian? No-one else remembers them appearing in a newspaper at all so I can't confirm this)
I half-read the first Bridget Jones. I thought it was fairly good comic writing, with a very good sense of voice.
I read the columns in the Indy, they were pretty good. Have never read the book, although I probably should.
Right at this very moment, Radio 4 are doing a thing on 'chick lit' as a genre ...
Yes, the column was in the Indy. That probably explains why no one else remembers it.
I read both, didnt like the second one much, but the first one was funny and light... i passed them onto a czech friend of mine, who LOVES stuff about modern british girls lives.. she thinks they are the best things she ever read, and shes a devotee of kundera... go figure eh? :o)
If you liked it Nancy, you should try India Knights "My Life on a Plate". Very similar voice, also hysterically funny. I love reading stuff that makes me snort and giggle..
thanks Liana.. .will definitely look for that book on my next trip to the bookstore :)
I didn't think much of the book. This is, in my opinion, the only case where the film is much better than the book.
I laughed like mad at both books. The only bad thing was I was trying to give up smoking when I read the first one and all the woman seems to do sometimes is talk about fags. It was pretty distracting.
The film was okay - can't see the attraction of Colin Firth myself, but there you go!
