Recreation Ground by Tom Saunders
A smashing poem - perhaps as somebody who turned drinking into a full-time occupation rather than just a hobby it won me over completely and immediately!
Full of some wonderful images like "talcummed secrets ..."
grrr
thanks for a great read Tom.

btw...I love this
Whirled perfect by alcohol,
we fall to the grass in the dark,
laugh like children, swear like men,
grip our piece of planet
while the girls’ faces flare brighter
as they smoke and jive to a transistor,
hiss of rock’n’roll on the tank of a bike.
...but it almost sounds as though it is meant to continue...or maybe its just me and I've had too much caffeine today.

Thanks, Jude. I appreciate the kind words.
The poem can't go any further. Those girls weren't meant for us!
