Personal Space

I brought up the issue, on another forum, of not-being-able-to-watch-a-film-at-the-cinema-in-peace-these-days. Issues of politeness were discussed, as well as issues of Personal Space… specifically: do we expect too much of it? Personally I’m rather fond of it. Although I’m not totally averse to human company, I would be more than happy if I could have absolute control over when and by whom my own particular little bubble of oxygen is invaded.

But has the issue of Personal Space gone too far?

I rarely visit the cinema nowadays, due to that very reason. There's a cinema in Newcastle which is very generous with seating space. I miss those childhood days when self-consciousness was so absent that you could huddle up next to a friend, your legs and arms touching theirs, and not feel the slightest twang of discomfort. It seems that wherever I go these days I am beset by boorish morons spouting claptrap - is that what you mean Peps?

Leave Peeps alone! 'Ees my mucker.

some people may find that it helps to visit the cinema with a nice, young lady. A bit of love does wonders for ugly personalities ;@) When the power of love overcomes the love of power, we'll find peace. - Jimi Hendrix

I'm from NYC and ride the subway every day. ANYONE who rides mass transit knows that personal space is ignored. I can't stand it. My secret to preserving it: wear dark glasses when possible and stare at people who get too close for comfort. It's amazing what a look of disgust/distaste will do for people with no depth perception. :D
Have you tried not showering, I hear that also works.

It wouldn't be noticable on the V train. Smells like shit already... Oh God I can't stand the MTA.
If you think you have personal space problems try living in this city. I'm moving out asap to buy a little home in Oxted and will use a big wall and a wrought iron gate to seal off my personal space. I will get my groceries delivered by Ocado, only ever watch UKTV gold and never go out and this forum will be my only contact with the outside world. jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Jude, it's sunny today. There, now you don't even need to look out of the window.

Idyllic, Jude, idyllic! :))) pe ps oid ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com)
