T-shirts and favourite poems
Hi,
Been thinking more on this T-shirt thing, what with Christmas coming up and I wondered what you think of this idea.
Everyone on the site nominates their favourite short poems (let's say top 10) on the site.
We put the top 10 poems on to T-shirts (with the author's permission) along with the authors name and ABCtales logo. These are then sold through the site. Author gets commission on every one sold.
Would you buy one and if so, which poems would you like to see on the T-shirt (bear in mind that it will need to be a relatively short poem to fit!)
Cheers
Em
Barenib's "Damien Hirst wears glasses"
And to please us prosers - Noodles, by Andy Barrattt. Come on, it's short, it is magical and funny.
Actually, I just like the idea of everyone voting for their ten favourite pieces, after the first full year of running the site, I think this would be interesting. Given that we are an abc of stories and poems, we could pick the most popular representative of each letter. Not for the T-shirts, just for a special "Reader's choice abc-set"
...maybe the techno people could set up a link to nominate direct to.....would make it easier to calculate all the votes and find the top 10...
Would this not be open to abuse, as per the star-rating system? People voting for themselves etc.
This a really great idea, but quite an impossible task!
Many of my favourite poems on here are fairly long...I will try by giving a few of my nominations...
1) Poet Judes "Alcoholic Haze"
2) Fey_Mouse "Glass of water"
3) Primate "Owl"
4) Liana "Under every bed"
......How short do they have to be as I have quite a few I would like to nominate, this is hard work!
Sterling Idea worth the Christmas spending Gold ...

Mm. Sorry to pour cold water etc but - doesn't putting something that many may like (but not buy), and others may not, onto a shirt alienate many potential customers who'd be very willing to wear a shirt with a big ABC logo, but not one bearing a poem they're not too keen on? Votes for a poem may well not translate into sales for any number of reasons (like poets seldom being well-heeled), and it sounds like a sure-fire way of having a pile of unsold stock left on ABC's hands. Sorry to sound negative, but I'd stick with the logo.
PS Just because you like a poem probably won't save you from ridicule from your less "cultured" mates every time you wear it out.
Don't stress, we've already thought of this. You can get T-shirts, mousemats, mugs and more with a big ABCtales logo, on them too. Visit our shop to buy yours.
Re: unsold stock, it's not a problem as it's print on demand
so we won't end up with unsold stock.
Cheers

Fair enough. I stand corrected.
vote for simon66...
and i promise to think about spending some of the royalties (which i really really need) in that fantastic store - the body shop... and possibly in some of the wonderful affiliated companies linked for your convenience on this very site. (how am i doin' mgt?)... not only that, but i will stop killing dolphins and whales (possibly even kittens - although i do enjoy that quite a lot)... and that's a cast iron promise.
remember, a vote for simon66 is a vote for YOU!
... a vote for simon66 is a vote for US ALL!
eye thank ewe.
*serious*
i'd like to nominate a piece of prose. it's called
'What You Said'
and it's absolutely flippin' brilliant. i don't know who wrote it, but they'll go far. i'd buy twenty t-shirts myself so i could wear one every day of the month. blummin', flippin' BRILLIANT!
eye thank ewe.
Any of Eddie Gibbons' t-shirt shorts, or am I late with that suggestion?
Ive been away...
