Squirrels pinching my bulbs.

Squirrels pinching my bulbs.

Any advice on how to stop squirrels nicking bulbs? My crocuses are prey to a big cocky white-chested brute of a squirrel this year; the bugger even sneaks down behind my back and digs while I'm in the garden. Looking around online, I find the standard advice is to lay wire netting - but I want to add plants above the bulbs (cyclamen and such).

At first , I thought the villain was only partial to the crocuses, but he had one of my summer snowflakes away yesterday. My cat is on the case, bless him, but he's short-sighted, and and it's a bit like the gazelle and the cheetah: the squirrel always squirms to freedom. (And then has the cheek to sit mocking down at us). God help me when I put my new tulips in, which will be like setting out a plate of chocolates before Augustus Gloop.

One suggestion I've come across is to sprinkle Cayenne pepper on the scene. That makes sense, as it tastes so nasty neat (I imagine). I'll give it a try.

Landmines. There are several charities who work in third world countries removing old landmines, so you should be able to pick some up cheap. Try Christian Aid.

Ooh the SuperPestX - if only they worked... What about chilli pepper, d.Beswetherwick? Or is that too cruel?
Don't normally scroll down to the older threads, but I couldn't resist this'un! Don't have any words of advice, I'm afraid, Lou, but you know you said you were having problems getting into your writing...? Hello-o-o-o-o-o-o!!! Personally I'd read booksful of squirrel/bulb anecdotes and the like... "P"
