Fatih Tas, the owner of Kurdish Aram Publishing House in Turkey faces
6.5 years of punishment in prison if he is not acquitted at his next
trial on the 2nd of December 2005 in an Istanbul court. He's being prosecuted for
having published a book by John Tirman, director of international
studies in MIT.

The Turkish translation of the book "Spoils of War: Human Cost of
America's Arms Trade" by John Tirman, published in Turkey by Aram
Puplishing House, is being prosecuted by the Attorney-General on an
indictment presented by him to the Court of Istanbul.

Thankyou to those of you who have done this. I recognise a few well known ABC names appearing on the petition. As readers and writers it is very important to protect free speech in any way that we can and if these people believe that an international petition can help, then for the few seconds it takes to add your name, it is worth it!
Well I saw at least three members, but then I don't know all the members real names. What I DID notice is that one of them is dear old Stephen Daly, so the question I asked on another thread is answered; he's still among us. I interpret his earthly presence coupled with his absence from the forum as a sign he may have his life back under control. That's good news, especially for him.

saw it, signed it. What is your problem ritawrites? This site has allowed total free speech in the five years that I have been a member. Indeed if it was a stilted media as your post implies, your verbose outpourings would be deleted forthwith. Enjoy your right and freedom of speech as is your democratic right, however remember others are not so fortunate.
Thankyou Jackie. The right to free speech must be limited when people choose to abuse it. That's not becasue they say things that I or anyone else may disagree with - it's the stupid, insulting, pointless drivel that she posts will put off many others from feeling able to exercise their right to post. The person stifling free speech is rita.
Hi mississippi, still pass by now and then. So i moved out of the hostels and b&bs and got a flat and feeling more settled in that aspect. It is nice in the Partick area well nearer byres road. Its really nice. What else, oh at the local uni doing various credited modules which are leading me in to the field were i want to be and even if i had a million pounds i would still want to work there. In counselling. Writing wise, i have been finishing of my entry for the oscar moore comp this year. I got my saxapahone recently and learning quickly ;). Yeah things are definetly changing and my life has become more positive. Maybe in hindsight the site helped in many aspects. Its really nice the new site and looks a lot better just everything about it is quite smooth. Occasionaly i have looked in at the forums, but not much, and not in a nosey way but i did yesterday. So yeah swings and roundabouts eh, just trying to make sure i dont fall of this time, but i don't think i will. As for the original post yeah its a disgrace isn't it. My name is there. Maybe when they see that it is internationally recognised it might make them think more. If whoever done the site could put mail address up we could all send them a few letters registering our dispproval. Its sad isnt it there is me going on about how my life has improved on a post that is talking about some one who is being terrorised. I dont know much about the turkish and kurdish problems but no-one but no-one has the right to use violence and force against a group of people just because they are different. And if you stand up and voice that opinion well in my book anyway thats what you call a human being. At least it is doing something and maybe if we done something it would get better. regards all

stephen

Good to hear from you Stephen - and to know that things are looking up for you. Our heartfelt best wishes.
Talking of 'free speech' what this about? "The government has warned media organisations they are breaking the law if they publish details of a leaked document said to show U.S. President George W. Bush wanted to bomb Arabic television station Al Jazeera." Is it just a crafty con to make us think that Blair actually used his influence to do something useful?
So your paranoia is still rampamt, mykle?
