Ali Farka Toure has passed away. One of the finest blues guitarists on the planet. He was known as the African "John Lee Hooker."

What a bummer.

Ali Farka Toure was great, pick up Radio Mali or the one he did with Ry Couder. Linda Smith (british comedian mostly on radio4) died this week too.

I was saddened to just find out that Dana Reeves, Christopher Reeves' widow, has died of lung cancer. She was diagnosed last August. That's really, really sad. Lots of people dying right now; must be the miserable weather...

Don Knotts died last Friday. He was best known for playing Barney Fife on the old Andy Griffith Show from the 60s.

John Junkin has just died - and even sadder from my perspective - so has Ivor Cutler. If you've never heard his 'Scenes from a Scottish Sitting Room Vol. 2' then you must. Here's a link to his obit in the Grauniad: http://arts.guardian.co.uk/news/obituary/0,,1725309,00.html(link is external) I love him most for teaching me this phrase: "Sur le volcan ne pousse pas l'herbe" (Grass does not grow on a volcano). He was referring to his bald head. I use it a lot!
