Hello from across the Pond

Hello everyone and thanks for accepting me as a member. I live in Ontario Canada and I'm in the process of finishing my first draft of my fantacy novel The Calling. I've been writing this novel for quite some time, since 1999, and knew it was time to put it away for a while. That way I'd have a fresh perspective when I decide to bring it back to life.
I have two other books on the back burners, but I have the strongest urge to write an erotic novel. This has been at the back of my mind for quite some time and I have decide to take the plunge. Only I don't know exactly where to start. Is there a certain type of erotic language I'd have to learn first? Are there certain guidelines I would have to know? What is/isn't accept or does anything go? I have a theme, plot and ending, but have know idea what would be the acceptable way to pull it all together. I've asked this same questions in other writing groups I'm in, but no one has helped and the discussion goes stale. So I thought why not join a group where erotic is accepted and written about. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Willow

A friend of mine has a dog named Willow. Hope that helped. Good luck and gooey things! :-)
I personally have very little experience in this area, Willow, but I would say that the term "erotic fiction" is an extremely wide and encompasing one! Like with any sort of writing that you are intending/hoping to get published... what is your market? Who are you writing for? Lesbian/gay? Men? Women? Both? Are you going for out-and-out erotica or something more "thriller with an erotic twist" (for example)? Generally speaking, I think when you are describing sexual scenes, you do have to be very careful about the language you use... erotica intends to elicit a certain kind of response (I won't go into details here!), but subtlety and variety, rather than full-on crudity (is that a word, or does it seem like I'm talking about crudites?) and cliche, are, I think, the order of the day. Like I said, though, very little personal experience, so maybe some of the members (*ahem*) here who are more versed in such things can assist further in the details... By the way, welcome to ABC! :) pe ps oid "the progenitor" "the art of tea" "that's an odd courgette"

The All New Pepsoid the Second!

Eroticism is an interesting theme. I reckon you need to do lots of fieldwork before you start! Well that's the way I'd approach the subject.... ;-)
Dont worry Pepsoid, 'crudity' is a perfectly cromulent word. As for the novel, why not go for something like the film "Blue Velvet"? A mystery/intrigue/surreal/erotic/thriller with a poignant other worldly feel.... its an untapped genre. ( its hard not to write puns on this subject.)

The All New Pepsoid the Second!

Keleph. I think you forget to add it's an incredibly violent film with a sado-masochistic edge. The scene where Isabella Rosselini stumbles out into the night completely naked and covered in bruises, and falls into the arms of Kyle Machlachan as one of the most affecting I've ever seen in the cinema.
