Sarah Orne Jewett

I just wanted to give the readers/writers a heads up on an absolutely wonderful American writer, Sarah Orne Jewett, who lived in rural Maine and wrote during the very early 1900's. This woman's writing literally takes my breath away (i.e. please excuse the hackneyed cliche).
She writes about pastoral communities that I, even as a native New Englander, new little about. I guarantee you won't find a more subtle writer anywhere on the planet.

oooh - sound great. I spent my summer holidays in that area last year and found it fascinating. I'll look her up.
A White Heron is the masterpiece of a short story which is anthologized over and over but there are other writings equally as amazing. This writer reminds me of a cross between George Elliot and Willa Cather - admittedly a strange set of bedfellows - in terms of the descriptive prose and first-rate story telling.
