6 Poems
By JIM MCCLEAN
1) MOTIVE
The tide is changing and I can't swim,
Seeking help,
I optimistically murder a hymn.
From the depths of the slippery sea,
The rising current is snapping and spitting at me.
Feeling tired and weary ,
But eager to live,
I question the waters motive.
2) AT LEAST THE RAIN HIDES MY TEARS
I'm freefalling ,
Into the abyss,
I wish I had been more neutral,
Just like the Swiss.
Why did I kill all the good inside me?
Tortured words from a troubled mind,
I guess that's the story off mankind.
Despairs cold grip is tugging at me,
I've been cursed just like the fig tree.
At least the rain hides my tears.
3) WE ALL FALL
Time is indeed true and fair,
Harrowing doubt leads to despair.
Emotion equates how we feel,
Love is the real ideal.
Existence is a just cause,
Despite of our insurmountable flaws.
Through spoken tongue of different language
This leads fearful paranoid anguish.
How many of us are willing to drink the wine of truth?
When did we lose the innocence of youth?
What we believe and we perceive,
Helps us to defraud and deceive.
Why is war always a just cause?
Why do the greedy reply because, because, because.
As I saunter through my muddled mind,
Time allegedly helps me to define,
The reason of our being,
Why our soul is all conquering and forever seeing.
Why does the sun still shine?
Unconcerned with the bleak news headlines!
Why are the wicked inspired by the dark?
Are we all branded with this trademark?
There is still time to turn from this path,
Where we may miss brooding vengeful wrath.
As I briefly stop for some respite,
I ponder over my own musing.
The picture I paint is from a black unstable canvas.
Up close and personal,
Face to face,
Here I stand before you,
Unable to maintain lifes pace.
Are we so arrogant these days that we think we can outwit death?
Alas WE ALL FALL with our last breath.
4) DESIRE
I ASKED MY SOUL A QUESTION
I DIDN`T WANT NO LIES
ARE THE FIRES WITHIN ME
EVER TO ARISE?
I GAZED UPON A GAUNT FIGURE
A TIRED AND TWISTED MAN
REALISING MY REFLECTION
THAT MOMENT MY LIFE BEGAN
FOR TOO LONG I`VE BEEN TOO CAUTIOUS
FOR TOO LONG I`VE BEEN TOO LONELY
FOR TOO LONG I`VE BEEN TOO SAD
NO MORE `IF ONLY`
THE FLAMES OF DESIRE
ALTHOUGH COVERED IN BARBWIRE
WILL LIFT ME FROM THIS QUAGMIRE
FROM NOW I WILL INSPIRE
NOW I EXCITEDLY DREAM
THAT I WILL REIGN SUPREME
LIKE THE CAT THAT GOT THE CREAM
FOR ITS TRUE I`VE BEEN REDEEMED.
5) MY STAR
Though I have no means nor power,
I see my star in the Heavens.
Hurtling,
Frantically searching for its final resting place.
Like it I shine,
Seeking my home
I doubt I will get there,
Through no fault of my own
I blame convenient destiny.
In the distance there is laughter
Yet I choke amongst my self-brooding smoke
Alas
I have succumbed to the ways of the world.
6) WAR
The day started off thirsty with expectation, the ravenous mood needed its fix, without it, a feeling of impending doom seemed assured.
The sullen time had arrived.
Many had wished for this moment, eventually everyone succumbs to their muse.
Men armed and eager with a dash of nervous recklessness, eyes vacant of empathy this truly was the ultimate cocktail brewed by Hades.
War is to be waged.
Why was not important.
Throughout the history of past realms and empires many battles have been fought.
Bloodshed and sorrow guaranteed.
People have short memories and the innocent shorter lives.
War is chaotically necessary.
To some it is a chance of redemption, while to others it is simply a challenge or contest.
It helps to feed the greedy and clothe the bashful. Mankind fails to realise their is enough land to shelter us all.
