Lulu and you good folk

I am going to interview Bob Young, the founder of Lulu, tomorrow morning - the interview will appear on here and on booktribes.

Any of you had any experience of publishing with Lulu?

My overall impression so far has been positive towards them - but maybe you know better.

Maybe you should ask him if he wants to do some kind of clever deal to make Abctales/Booktribes Lulu's book publishing agents in the UK.

I published my children's Christmas story with them. http://www.lulu.com/browse/book_view.php?fCID=569056&fBuyItem=3 The whole process of uploading, publishing and setting the price is dead easy. It's also easy to do post-publishing editing. I ordered a copy for myself and was very pleased with the finished product. The site seemed a bit more technical on the promotion/storefront set-up side of things - though I didn't go into that too deeply... which is daft, I know! Also, you can assign 'categories' to your work to narrow down the search process: 'short story', 'novel', 'fiction', 'Christmas', etc... though I still found it hard to find my book without using either my name or the title. But then... there's a helluva lot of books on there now.
I have published a one-off private work - the memoirs of a local chap, wot I ghost-writ (?!)... The quality of the product surpassed expectations and the process is generally pretty easy. Lulu seems, from my "extensive" (*ahem*) research, seems to be unique in its approach to self-publishing and therefore top of its field. pe ps oid ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... Bob Young turned out to be a very pleasant man with many of the same ethics and attitudes as me. No doubt we shall be discussing luluing with him in the near future. But this was an interview - and I thought it was a very interesting one. I will write in up on Thursday and post it on the front page here and on booktribes then. Thanks for your comments.
You just invented a new verb there, Tony. To lulu. Sounds like a line from 'Diamonds on the soles of her shoes'!
You want to limit your luluing to short, properly organised bursts, and only during clement weather. I once lulued during the Big Freeze of '97 - wound up bedridden for over a fortnight, and nearly lost the use of my left ear.
I do remember in my feckless youth a burst of sustained luluing over a considerable period. It made me shout. Do not try this at home.
Sustained luluing can induce severe cramp... best avoided! pe ps oid ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com)

Now I'm wondering if luluing is at all related to ululating? Questions, questions. "You don't need the light of the Lord to read the handwriting on the wall." Copies of Warsaw Tales available through www.new-ink.org
