A new Magazine about mental health difficulty

Hello everyone.

As some of you may be aware, I stepped down as editor of ABCtales last year to move to Social Spider CIC, a not-for-profit design, communication and social action agency.

I just thought I'd tell you about the launch of one of our projects this month.

'One in Four' is an aspirational magazine for people with mental health difficulties, those who know them and for the community at large.

The idea was to produce a magazine that inspired people with mental health difficulties to get the best out of life while challenging stereotypes and spreading information that would help everyone to understand mental health difficulty better.

With funding from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Funds and the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust, we've produced 10,000 copies of a 36 page, full colour pilot issue that is being distributed through places of treatment, GPs surgeries, public libraries, Mind centres and charity shops and other outlets throughout Greater London.

We're really proud of it.

You can find a copy online here, with some background to the project:

I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Cheers,

Mark

It's a great idea, but I'm too low to read... lol is there an audio version? kiddin' - great to see this stuff out there. Keep up the good work!!! :) When the power of love overcomes the love of power, we'll find peace. - Jimi Hendrix

Just spent an hour with a mug of tea reading this. Really excellent work Mark and all. The Redfield Jamieson review is particularly good, also the listing of benefit laws is excellent. When low, sorting out things like that is an incredibly hard mountain to climb. To have a list and clear help at hand is a boon. The way it is written is exactly right. No high faluting medical speak yet not patronising either. Top stuff. Can I have a few copies for work?
Very well done. I was a bit skeptical because I think such things can encourage victim mentality but you seem to have avoided this. The de-stress part and getaway are really useful. Since dual diagnosis is so common (alcohol/drug addiction plus a mental health problem) maybe the AA number in the useful numbers section? jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Hey Mark, just wanted to say congratulations. I've downloaded it and had a quick look through it - good range of articles, and very professional looking. I haven't had time to read it yet properly. This morning was reading in bed, blog, talk to mother, now lunch, then work. But I will read it tomorrow. Sexy picture of you though! Drew x http://homepage.ntlworld.com/drew.gummerson2

A great idea, and congrats for all the work you've put into this. I've downloaded and skimmed through - looks very professional and interesting, will read in depth when time. I'm very glad there are initiatives like this and people prepared to see them through.
