Aunty Katy's Garden
AUNTY KATY'S GARDEN
A True Story
In Aunty Katy's garden is a pond – with frogs,
And the night house, that Katy built herself.
There's a yellow wooden swing, hanging from a tree,
But – Where is Aunty Katy?
There are rows of runner beans – in Summer,
And lovely leafyily lettuce in Spring.
There's a shed, quite hidden by Ivy,
But – Where is Aunty Katy?
There's an 'underbrella' (that's how Lucy called it)
Two small striped and four white plastic chairs.
There's a picnic on the table, and children having tea,
But – Where is Aunty Katy?
There's a wild place at the bottom of the garden,
And windy paths that wander here and there.
One day William picked some strawberries in the garden,
And that day Katy certainly was there.
But wait! That may be footsteps on the path, now!
And yes! – that is the creaking of the gate!
And here is Aunty Katy – with a Special-looking box,
Calling, “All Here? Lovely – here's the cake!”
