I live alone in a big house
With Erin's cat, Mr. P.
He was fourteen when she died
And that was two years ago.
Jerene, her Mother, came down
In January for the anniversary
Of Erin's death, strewed pink roses
Across her bronze marker.
I stayed at the curb, eyes averted.
I drive out to the cemetery
A few times a month now,
Park, leave the car less and less.
Jerene seems to resent
The constancy of my emotion,
As if I haven't left room
For anybody else to grieve.

One of those examples of a few words brought into the day that make me stop, think, reflect, and move on feeling a bit different about it all. Just what real poetry's about, in other words. Well done.

Yes, very poignant. I like the way Jerene's emotions are signalled.

A really good read. I'm with Stan in saying that these words have initiated my deep thinking and contemplation for the day! Last four lines are superb, and something i can relate to.
Thanks.
Steve.
