Hello, Goodbye

from the ABC set Poetry For Everyone

I met her on a summers
day, in the rain.
Her damp hair had a
smell I'll never forget
We talked, about everything
yet nothing at all.
When she laughed
She threw back her head
and made a noise
that made me smile
and laugh all at
the same time.
She was my world
for what seemed
like a lifetime,
but was only a dribble
in life’s sea of time.
We loved, bred, breathed
until the exhaustion
of life took me over.
She cried, bitter tears
as I left that day
Until then, she’d
never realised
Every hello ends with goodbye.

Particularly liked the lines:
She was my world
for what seemed
like a lifetime,
but was only a dribble
in life’s sea of time.

Very well constructed.
