from the ABC set The Long and the Short of It...

'For haffa pound of tuppenny rice,
I'd popya one ya weasel!'
Dream-like voices, hard boiled
as Mother Goose's eggs.
'Oh no ya wouldn't!; Mary said.
Three pigs cried 'wolf!'
outta the side of their snouts.
And the farmer's wife's knife
helped Griselda with Cindi's shoe.
All dreamt in the colour
of Disney before Television.
I felt like Jack listening
to the beans' talk.

Oh dear, this one made me giggle! Hilarious!

Why are you inspired by nursery rhymes today?

I'm always fascinated by nursery rhymes, fairy tales and folklore; I still consider Angela Carter one of the most underrated authors of the last century.

This is definitely 'my cup of tea'. Loved it; clever, funny and entertaining. I read lately that some gobshite (an Irish expression - work it out) claims that there was too much underlying violence in the Disney cartoons (and others) and that kids should be protected and parents warned. I bloody despair! Anyway I digress - had a smile at this, thanks!

Hahaha... I really enjoyed how you integrated various nursery rhyme characters into this. Thanks for the laugh too.

I LOVE Angela Carter!

Yes, fairytales are dismissed as stories for children by the ignorant....
