Chapter 2
Vox: 27th day, 12th month 2515
A
zaya had not seen her partner for months, since he had began his course at University.
She had been happily preparing a Voxian New Year party for Orion’s return from Earth and was busy shopping in the markets outside the border of the Capalian city limits.
She walked through the alleys trying to search for some unusual items from Earth and this was usually the best way to find them, the mainstream shops always stocked some trinkets, but the markets went all out to get produce like banners that said ‘Happy New Year’ and mistletoe which she knew Fantacia would find amusing.
As Azaya turned into an alley behind one of the market stalls, she spotted a tall figure, a woman who stood very thin, her skin pale and bloated with blue veins which bulged out through her face, her eyes were coloured black with a strange tangle of black hair that was styled in numerous braids and then placed like a crown on her head... she looked very bizarre, different than anything she had ever encountered before.
As the woman turned to face Azaya, she smiled at her with teeth that were like razor blades; all rowed together like a sharks, all jagged and sharp.
Azaya took in a sharp intake of breath as she realised that this was definitely not a Voxian woman.
This was a Vardu.
By the woman’s stance she looked like she was from gentry, perhaps even royalty, the Queen bee…or in this case Queen Vardu, her regal stance made her look like she had power beyond the others that she had encountered before, Azaya could sense the danger.
The Vardu woman Leemala smiled as she glared threateningly at Azaya, her black coloured irises deep and invasive penetrated into Azaya’s very soul. Leemala let out a high pitched scream of laughter that seemed to scramble through every thought in Azaya’s head; she then began to speak softly to her victim like she had a dual personality.
“Don’t worry my pretty little girl, I’m not going to kill you yet, you are too valuable. I need you so I can capture your bastard boyfriend and his interfering family,” Leemala said as she let out a strange cackle.
Azaya’s mind recovered but only slightly, she began to panic; she raced forward towards the Vardu woman and as she did her pentagram star began to shine brightly releasing some of Azaya’s powers of protection.
Leemala and Azaya connected as Azaya began her attack, her bright blue star touching lightly on the skin of her enemy.
Leemala felt it tingle as the power jutted through her decayed body like a spurt of existence, electricity, for a moment she felt a small euphoria of energy she had never had before, empowering her as if she had come back to life…
She liked it.
As Leemala swung around, Azaya’s foot caught on something on the ground and she lost her balance, Leemala took advantage of this opportunity, so she bit hard into Azaya’s neck.
BOOM!
Azaya’s powers of light had kicked in to warn the others of impending danger, Azaya, like her mother, had an Angel power, after many years of Kathos’s influence being a part of their planet, the light Voxians evolved with a signal which was made of pure light and that was what had interacted with the Vardu attacker.
The sonic boom let out a sweeping virus across Vox as DNA fused with DNA, as the double helix strands combined with one another, the sonic waves stretched over the whole planet, like the waves from a nuclear bomb, spreading it’s disease as death combed over the cities and mountains, infecting all with the Voxian’s hot blood like a plague.
In moments of danger Azaya could warn the people of Vox of intrusion by an enemy and this was the power that did it, unfortunately this time it was not all it did, with the added ingredients of Vardu DNA structure, the boom spread a DNA virus (Mega helix) infecting all that had been present on the planet surface.
All the Voxian people suddenly dropped to the ground as the Vardu Queen began to dematerialise from rotting flesh into spirit, Leemala’s shadowy figure disintegrated into the ground as she fled from the scene.
Lying unconscious on the floor the Voxian’s eyes began turning red, their fangs transformed into razor sharp teeth, they had begun to metamorphosise into a creature similar to Vardu.
Vox was now in serious trouble, so were all their allies who had chosen to live there, who due to their cooler blood could not be infected. The Humans, Isisians and the Reptilians, whose bodies were unable to carry Vardu DNA because heat was the biggest key to the transference of the genes, were immune as the blood of their species was too cold.
As the DNA virus took hold, it turned the Voxians into crazed super powered Vardu with the intent to kill the more vulnerable. Another advantage these crazed warriors had, was knowledge of the places these people could hide so that they could hunt them down.
The Voxian infected would be hunting their victims in no time.
Planet security measures meant the victims had to get through customs, showing identity, passports and such, so they were stuck here because Voxians who worked in this department would be infected; no other species therefore had a way to get off the planet.
Humans and other species ran for the forests and caves before the Voxian people came to, they looked for anywhere that could protect them from these new deadly hunters.
* * *
Hours later…
As Azaya stirred with her vision blurry, she found herself still at the same place she had been when she confronted Leemala.
The alley was silent, empty, she had a hollow feeling in the pit of her stomach, it had an ache as if she was expecting something bad to happen at any moment.
“Damn,” she uttered under her breath. “I need to get home and find Raidar.”
She stood up too quickly, the world began to spin as she fell back down to the ground, she began to look around her.
Through the market square and surrounding places in the city, Azaya spotted more people lying around on the floor, sprawled as if they too had just landed on the floor in a heap, all was still, there was a deathly silence!
“Oh My Goddess, she has killed them all!” Azaya looked on in horror as she tried a second attempt at standing, only this time as she began to get up to her feet she put her hand to her throat checking out why it appeared to be stinging and felt itchy.
As her hand came into contact with her own flesh, she took a sharp intake of breath, Azaya kept placing her hand on her neck; she was panicking, checking herself all over for more wounds.
“No…nothing, I’ll be okay…” she put her hand back on a gaping wound on her neck, Voxians didn’t usually stay wounded for more than seconds but this was bleeding profusely, blood had covered the whole side of her arm and sleeve of her top, when she looked back where she had lay a massive puddle had spilt all over the ground.
“Oh My Goddess!” Azaya began to cry.
Azaya grabbed the wound on her neck to try and stem the bleeding which slowed quickly. She took a tissue from her bag which had fallen on the floor next to her, as she put her hand up to her throat Azaya caught the glint of blue light coming from her palm.
“She didn’t kill them, I did!”
