Plain speaking

This here’s a poem what I wrote
In my English class at school
Teacher made me read it out
I din’t ‘arf feel a fool

It’s sort of a bit like essays
But the words are ‘sposed to rhyme
It’s reely bleedin difficult
To get it right each time

“Right, read your poem out now,”
Says Miss pointing right at me
“I aint done nuffink yet miss
‘eres me paper, blank d’you see”

But some of me mates was writing
And they read out quite a bit
There was lots of flowery language
But no sense to most of it

Then suddenly I gets the plot
It’s become as clear as day
I starts to scribble quickly like
You know what I mean? OK!

Says teacher “children are always heard
Especially if they’re bold
Now tell the class what you just wrote”
So I does what I am told

“The bees is buzzing in the grass
And so it comes to pass
They makes a lot of honey
Which mum buys with her house keeping money.”

“A good attempt young man”
Is what the teacher says
“But you haven’t got the rhythm right
Though you’re starting to show sense.”

Then finally I get it
And all that sort of thing
So I give it all just one more go
Now it’s got that sort of ring

“Today in class I’ve just been learned
To write out poetry proper
But I still don’t know why I’m learning it
‘Cos I want to be a copper!” ----OOOO----
