Let us be Still

from the ABC set Poems to be read

Let us be still
For just a moment
Let those caustic flames of concern
No longer burn wild in your heaving cage
Cast it off
Here, we can dream away our age
& the sharp injustices of our encounters
day to day
Can bound after rabbits, soft
on the breeze

Let us be still
For just a moment
Let us forget our mouths
and their terrible news
Drown your mobile in deep reeds
Jangle my keys loose, then whomp them
in deep, unbothered grass
The appointment, the responsibilities
can pass
While our eyes loom above the whisper of our breath
We can wait

Let us be still
For just a moment
and for a moment we can let you just be you
I'll just be me
not those petty rasping things
the world can make us be
& the trees, the leaves,
the birds, the bees
will hum above, around, within us
because we are still
and we are free

I like the taking time out suggestion of this; to forget things of the ‘modern’ world, and just enjoy nature! ‘Let us forget our mouths and their terrible news’ seems fitting, with awful news being mentioned more frequently these days (so it seems!).

Love these lines:

'Let those caustic flames of concern
No longer burn wild in your heaving cage'

Love the metapgorical use of 'cage'

and

'Can bound after rabbits, soft
on the breeze'

Makes me feel like getting down on all fours and scampering away across the park!
